ABA National Semi-Final Results

A Queensland double, as the Cairns Marlins proved too strong for a determined Dandenong line-up, who tried valiently, but found no answer for the depth of their far north queensland opponents.

Cairns Marlins 110
(A Grabau 24, G Boodnikoff 23, N Jawai 21)
defeated
Dandenong Rangers 98
(A Cannan 20, B Hobba 20, V Inglima 18)

MVP: A Grabau (Cairns)

In the Women's Final, Townsville smashed Hume City, who didn't stand a chance being two players down against a stronger, faster, and far better skilled Flames squad, and in the end, the 43 point thumping was a fitting result, with the MVP going to Rohanne Cox's 30 points, 9 rebound domination of the game.

Townsville Flames 92
(R Cox 30, C Hellibron 21, M Hill 12)
defeated
Hume City Broncos 49
(N Pedro 11, T Taylor 8, K Burbridge 8, A Crosswhite 8)

From the Kalgoorlie Miner...

The Goldfields Giants have suffered a significant loss in their tall stocks ahead of the 2021 NBL1 season following the departure of Majier Garang.

Goldfields released Garang from his one-year contract on Tuesday after the 206cm forward made clear his desire to return to Perth for personal reasons.

While Garang was deemed an important part of the club’s plans, Giants president Russell Duncan said player welfare needed to be prioritised.

“Majier requested a release from his contract and said he wanted to get back to Perth,” Duncan said.

“We’re not going to stop him if he’s not happy in Kalgoorlie anymore.

“Over the last month, maybe before Christmas, he was a bit back-and-forth about what he was doing so we sort of let him make his decision.

“The last week or so when he was talking to (head coach Wayne Creek), basically we ended up saying to him ‘look, if you’re going to stay, make the commitment. If not, we’re happy to release you from your playing commitments to us’.

“He then confirmed the decision to move on the other day.

“We definitely wanted him to stay and we told him he was a preferred player.

“It’s a bit unfortunate but player welfare is of the utmost importance.”
