Kidd to Mavs trade back on?
Yeah, it's all to do with his Bird Rights (where players after three seasons with the team are paid over and above the salary cap. This came about where Boston was to re-sign Larry Bird, but didn't have enough cap room, so the NBA instituted this rule...).
Anyway, George had to waive his Bird Rights - which would have severely hindered his ability to make a good salary next year (whatever you think of his play) - for the deal to go through.

Sorry Isaac
Id take D.George Back @ LA coming off the bench any day
This trade wont happen
Put urself in George's shoes.......go from Dallas...chance of making the playoffs and advancing past the 1st round or going to N.J and barely making it to the first round
Stuff that.....i would exercise my rights as well
Dallas dump him.....im certain he will get another gig!!

BTW, you can't actually voluntarily include "No Trade" clauses in contracts anymore, Kobe is the last player in the league to have one. So if you see a reference to anyone other than Kobe having a "no trade" clause, it's just a function of their contract.

Panther is spot on, plus whenever a deal is "player X and cash", the cash is to cover the buyout cost, at least in part.
