A player's worth based on performance will decide his value. If a club is picking up a good player, they will pay good money for him. As long as the balance between quality of player and fitting in the salary cap is maintained, then the points system is absolutely pointless (pardon the pun). Scrap it altogether. Having said that, there needs to be a much more transparent list of payments that do and do not fit in the salary cap and much stronger policing of cap abuse.
