Game Night Take 2: Crocs
Isaac, from mattic's comments, do you think it was a one off game that Townsville played particularly well and that there is still hope for the 36ers to salvage the rest of the season? Should it be put down to bad luck on the night and focus on what's left? If that's the case atleast its promising however the previous night's loss to a team of inferior quality really puts a spanner in the works. Cairns don't even have their head coach and are playing under assistants. From a real high before the Cairns game sitting in 4th position with the attractiveness of a home playoff game, 2 games later have become a battle to even make the playoffs. That would be a real shame for the supporters and the club itself. No doubt this season has cost the club a fortune in changes in imports and also injuries yet possibly not making playoffs. I personally think the club has not recruited well this season. Tyndale straight out of college was a huge mistake when an import is supposed to dominate. Potsie must have had rocks in his head to give him a no cut contract (although blame has to rest on others as well for not picking it up). Bruce has not proven to be the choice pick up as expected. His season has been very ordinary. Winitana whilst exciting after watching him in the pre season, does not have a record of being a stand out player so I don't know what the 36ers thought they were getting. Davidson, whilst having a few good games this season, has not really had much impact. He started this season with injury and as a result spent much of the time sidelined. Jacob Holmes was a better player 3 years ago before he left Adelaide and needs to add more to the scoring. The only real positives have been Ballinger (we already had him), Schenscher and Hill has made a remarkable improvement. Brett Maher has been on the decline as far as his input to the game goes but still remains as a remarkable leader and disciplinarian on the floor. Cooper has been a waste of a bench seat. He always looks to me when he goes on court as being shackled.

It's been an horrendous road trip. Completely. No doubt.
So we re-focus, get our collective asses in gear and get back in the game.
We'll make the finals. Time to get our sh*t together as a team - and we will.

Skip you commented that I am never happy. To make a comment like that I assumed you must be.

^^^ excuse my grammar. I wasn't kidding re: scotch!

I've been a staunch Ninnis supporter from day one, but I'm starting to believe he's partly to blame (and I'm not quick to jump bandwagons). One reason being someone mentioned his constantly mixed signals to Holmes.
Scotty aside, I'm leaning towards players. Ninnis didn't score 5 in a quarter against the Taipans. Scotty didn't turn the ball over 19 times against the Crocs - they're not coaching decisions - they're skill errors.
The rotations may be partially to blame, but the Sixers are letting themselves down.
To be fair, it's been an incredibly trying 2 weeks, emotionally and mentallt for them. Our stability has been all over the place. Thankfully, we managed to defenc our house twice before this weekend's "Sunshine Swing Massacre".
We'll make the finals. Just remains to be seen which Sixers outfit turns up.

Skip, reading all the posts on this thread, it certainly appears to me that everyone is feeling the same way. Why say you are happy about something when its obvious that you can't possibly be happy about what is happening. I am a passionate supporter of the 36ers as much as anyone on this forum. I have missed 2 home games in 7 years and attended dozens interstate in that time. I would say its this passion that causes losses like this to hit harder.

If you fine posters will excuse me, I'll be at the bottom of a bottle of scotch, searching through VHS tapes of happier days.
Where's that Canberra game where Rose goes ballistic? It's in here somewhere...

Peter (awesome name btw :p ) - you're welcome sir.
FINAL: Townsville 128 to Adelaide 105.
We're at 12 and 13 now.
Turnovers decimated us 19 to 8.
The tallest team in the league lost the boards 45 to 38.
Williamson 22 and Williams 20 destroyed us.
Adelaide's backcourst described as "worse than bad - woefull - thanks to Bruce especially letting them down".

EC - c'mon dude. Skip loves the Sixers like the rest of us.

Skip, I take it you are sitting and following this game with a bottle of champagne at hand and celebrating this appalling display.

Crocs 125 to Sixers 97.
2:56 left.
My girlfriend wants to know why I've been so grumpy all weekend.
(Note to self: dump girlfriend for lack of NBL knowledge).

Lost the first quarter by 7 - 40 to 33.
Lost the second quarter by 11 - 35 to 24.
Lost the third quarter by 4 - 30 to 26.
Losing the final quarter by 6 - 18 to 12.
Decimated.

How does a backcourt with the experience of Maher and Davidson lose composure in a pressure situation?
I just don't get it. I understand Maher is limited by doctor's orders to approx 28 mins per game and Davidson is coming back from some serious injuries...but we're being humiliated.
Hill seems like he's played his part...but Bruce has been all over the place.
Commentators mocking us re: Hodge.
Ugh. Why am I still listening.
Commentators "They've given up".
120 - 93.

Tovey hits another 3. Timeout Adelaide.
Yep. Hurting.
Down 116 to 88 with 7:45 to go.
Painful times.

skip - I feel ya man. You're right. Frustrating.

Playing the Sunshine Swing a few days after learing you've been signed by the Sixers and flying in from the States on zero notice to a completely new system is hardly an indication of your ability.
You're right - Grizz is nothing like Hodge, thank god.

If they lose this one as well, they will not get a single applause from me on Wednesday night when the players are introduced. This is a disgusting effort and they need to earn my respect. Having said this, they have time to stage a miraculous comeback now. I won't be happy with anything less.

Sleezy - 4th just started. Crocs have 107 already.

Crocs have had 16 more shots than Adelaide...and only 3 turnovers to our 17.

Crocs up by 19.
Cooper subbed in.
Grizz turns it over with a very sloppy charge.
If didn't already drink, I'd take up the habit.

^^^ sorry, should read "Grizz assist" to Hill.

Brad Hill, shot 3pt made off a Hill assist.
Kelvin Robertson hits 3.
Down 102 to 83.

Luke Schenscher, shot 2pt made
Daniel Egan, shot 3pt made
Rod Grizzard, shot 3pt made
Rod Grizzard, shot 3pt missed
Rosell Ellis, rebound defensive
Down 96 to 80.

Sixers call time out and want to talk it over with 4:07 left in the third, down 93 to 75.
They'll need a solid run before the break or it's over.
Look to Davidson to hit the 3 or Maher to come alive. Hill has been quiet since his big opening. Ranga towers starting to fire up. Crocs still playing well.

93 to 75 with 4:36 left before the final break.
Luke 19, Balls 15, Hill 13.
Williamson 19, Williams 18, Ellis 17.

Down 89 to 75 after Davidson hits another 3.

Crocs 81 to Sixers 68.
Bruce fouls Ellis and he hits both frees.
Maher misses 3.
Williams hits 2 more.
Luke hits 2.
Cedar misses 3.
Holmes boards.
Down 86 to 70.

B-Easy : That's what the Crocs radio guys stated, yeah.

Maher rebounds, outlet to Bruce, back to Maher, Holmes hits 3.
Ellis misses. Williamson rebounds - misses. Holmes grabs the board. Schensher hits 2 off a Bruce assist. Timout Crocs.
We're down 77 to 66. 8:53 left in the third.

Mahers hits 2. 77 - 61 Townsville.

Points off turnovers - Crocs 31.
Sixers 1.
First play - Adelaide turnover.

Peter - very sound analysis.

"Dear diary,
Was remembering old times today, and came across an old Hoops SA thread from the 08/09 season when we won the championship. Turns out we were down 75 to 57 against the Crocs at half time, with live audio dodgy as and the FIBA scores being temperamental.
Anyway, staged the greatest comeback in basketball memory to beat the Crocs and went on to destroy both the Tigers and the Dragons in the best final series the country has ever seen. Good times".
-sip-
Inventing reality is so much cooler that witnessing it in painful slow time.

Box scores for the Sixers:
Brett 13:53, 5 pts, 6 assists
Bruce 9:30, 5 pts, 2 assists.
Hill 16:34, 13 points, 4 boards, 1 assist.
Schenscher 17:57, 9 pts, 6 boards.
Cooper 3:28, 2 pts.
Davidson, 14:30, 6 pts, 2 assists.
Grizzard 14:08, 2 pts, 1 board, 1 assist.
Ballinger 17:11, 15 pts, 1 board.

12 turnovers. Ugh.

As we're approaching half time, I' make the call now :p
Maher to explode in the second half, alla the Gong game. He'll get fed up and refuse to lose. Cameo's by Hill (who's had his best start of any game this season) and Davidson who looks dangerous tonight from outside.
Brett won't let them drop this one.

Williams is complaining Bruce hooked his arm. Bruce suckers him in and refs notice.
"Suckered in by a college kid 10 years his junior".
Williams VERY unhappy - 3 fouls.

Unsporstman like foul? Bruce to shoot 2 more.

Aaron hits 5 in a row. Lead at 12.

Bruce has SO much ability. Hope he puts it together like in the Perth game - he really can be a leader if his head is together.

Aaron Bruce turnover. Colour me suprised.
* slams head on desk *

Crocs have shot like they're playing old skool N64 NBA Hang Time on team fire for the first.
Sixers are reeling them in. Hill has played massive minutes while our Ranga towers are starting to come to the party.
We're down 56 to 48 with 4:42 before the half.

Crocs 51 - Adelaide 46 with 6.29 left in the second.
Grizz played 7.39, no shots from anywhere, 1 rebound on D.

Crocs 48 - Adelaide 39.
8.24 left in the second.
Tovey to shoot 2.

Crocs 48 - Sixers 35.
Cedar hits 2.

Adelaide 33 - Crocs 43.
Crocs fire has gone out after 7 mins at around 100%. 20 secs into second qtr.

I've got FIBA ahead of the radio link too.
