U19 World Champ Squads Named

The 8th FIBA U19 World Championship for Women will be played from 23rd July to 2nd August 2009 in Bangkok (Thailand) with 16 teams comprised of players born in 1990 or after.

Please find below the result of the draw, as well as the complete event schedule.

1. Composition of groups:

Group A: Argentina, Australia, France and Korea

Group B: Brazil, Czech Republic, Lithuania and Thailand

Group C: Canada, Japan, Russia and Tunisia

Group D: P.R. of China, Mali, Spain and USA

I think you'll find that Kate Gaze is actually the daughter of Andrew's COUSIN, Mark Gaze, who played in the league in the 80's, particularly Frankston from memory.

In the interests of knowing what's happening around the NBL:

The Cairns Taipans have launched their season ticket sales with a nicely produced short film featuring Grabau and Crosswell discovering the NBL trophy on an Indiana Jones-style jaunt in the wilderness. You can download it from the Taipans site.

They've got a series of promotions ripping off famous films -- The Taipans Strike Back, Ghostbusters, Taipans Angels (the cheerleaders), etc -- a touch corny, but nice effort. A season ticket to 16 home games starts at $259 for an adult (seats in this price class are the equivalent of above the concourse at the Dome), and they have three seating zones.
