From an outsider looking in, Sydney seems to be losing interest in most sports. When the Swans lose, they struggle to get a crowd and hence the Tassie option is looking far better as the next new AFL team, the NRL is lucky to get 15k to each game, and the NBL was lucky to get 500! Seems to be a trend happening...
I'm all for having Sydney back in the comp, but Sydney itself seems to be the least interested in getting back in.
They didn't even have an interested party lodge an application to be in the League- where has all the interest from within Sydney itself gone?
Will be interesting to see if the Fox announcement today makes any mention of a highlights package from the Top End Challenge. That would make it worthwhile in terms of promotion of the NBL and Darwin.
But with the amalgamation, the NBL is a BA vehicle to promote basketball in general around the country. BA would certainly be eyeing of a Darwin team, especially if they go with the two league option in the next couple of years.
