Retire 23 league wide?

DICKO you just nailed it mate! Its all about Lebron as usual - if he can't have #23 no-one can!

Really stupid idea to retire numbers league wide - if you retire #23 you'll find there is 20 others you'd have to retire as well. Pretty soon, the ref will need three hands to signal a foul!

Jordan = great player but it will always be pointless to try to pick one player above all others as the greatest. To do that you'd have to have parallel universes where all of the greatest played in the same era, each had access to the same knowledge about nutrition, injury management and training techniques and were surrounded by the same team-mates. Only then could you do a fair comparison between each of them.

Exactly, Johnny. Btw, that quote is verbatim from LBJ, according to hundreds of news sites and blogs.

Overall stats say Wilt is the best.
Overall scoring stats says Kareem is the best.
Overall assist stats say Stockton is the best.

Jordan: 30.1ppg, 6.2rpg, 5.3apg
Chamberlin: 30.9ppg, 22.9rpg, 4.4apg

Sorry, but the comparison still leans towards Chamberlin.

I'm not say Wilt or Kareem are the best of all time. I'm saying that the best you can say is that Jordan was the "Best of his Era".

There are too many greats that did what Jordan did. Besides all those that call him the "Best of All Time" just played against him at the same time.

Just remember, LBJ says:

Now, if I'm not going to wear No. 23, then nobody else should be able to wear it.

No one is on par with Jordan?

Sorry Wilt Chamberlin, your 100pts in a game means nothing, and your career 30ppg, 23rpg are worthless because you aren't Michael Jordan.

Sorry Dr J, your Pioneering of the Dunk into the modern game which has been used as a staple for many players since (specifically Nique and Jordan - who both idolize you); means nothing as Jordan is god.

Sorry Kareem, your 6 MVP titles, 6 NBA Championships, 19 All Star games and your title of "all time leading point scorer" (6000 more than Jordan) pales in comparison to Jordan.

My God man. Jordan is a legend of game. But if you think he is the crem-de-la-crem of all that is basketball; you're dreaming.

Granted the man took the game to a new level and revolutionized the sport with his acrobatic displays on the court; that makes him a legend. Best of all time? just not possible. There are too many people

No thanks.

Nice thought, stupid idea to follow through on.

Years ago

Hell no.

Too much reason to do that league wide for other legendary numbers.

33 Would have to be retired.
50 Would have to be retired.
32 Would have to be retired.
12 Would have to be retired.

You open the door for one number and every fanatic in the world will want another number retired. Jordan is a legend, but there are others on the same par as him. Do it for one, do it for all.

Will try for a quick recap for those who missed the chat with KG and Cornes.

Essentially, Boti believes that it's a positive thing for basketball. Straight away, he pulls them up on the term "financial administrator" and replaces it with "interim controller" to imply that basketball has a future and isn't necessarily being wound up.

Outlines that he thinks the club presidents sacking the board (as they attempted to do in the past) would have been perceived more positively than the government intervention. Says, who cares how it happens, it's done now.

He runs through some income from social basketball as an example, saying that he believes the income is there, but questions where it's being spent.

They run through Boti's line in the paper about Di Campbell heading to Purgatory. He responds by saying that the buck stops somewhere, and that is with the chairperson.

KG asks why people are able to walk away from this. Boti avoids the question to talk about the jobs of Daws, Jackson, Carter, etc.

They talk about the number of committees involved (Boti: "committees take minutes, lose hours").

He talks about money being spent in the wrong places. Some right places in his mind would be development, referees, etc.

He talks about the BASA budgeting potentially being run too often from a best-case scenario, when they could have more luck from a worst-case scenario, and aim to beat those.

Boti thinks that it would be appropriate to make this previous board and past CEOs accountable, especially given that bail-outs had been occuring since 1989.

He wonders if some figures provided to the government have been misleading - particularly with the interoptions between BASA and the Sixers.

He makes the claim that the Sixers being unprofitable is impossible, running through quick figures of income and expenditure. Says that he can only assume that the income from the team could be servicing other loans and expenses within SA basketball. Obviously, however, he doesn't have specifics, otherwise (he says) he'd put it in print.

Wraps it up by saying that he can't see the Sixers being sold.
