Cats and Blaze fined for "post-game incident"
Yep I've heard the Breakers amongst others are pretty good with promoting the game.
Brisbane for example in their last season sent players to the PA Hospital childrens' unit quite a few times but only sent them to about 2 schools.
They never did appearances or anything to promote the game.

The Breakers go to my nephews school and mini ball games all tha time and the kids get a massive kick out of it regardless of who the players are.
My nephews only know who Penney is and CJ Bruton lol

For the teams that don't do enough compared to others or just send out the development players instead of the drawcards, I guess it won't be an issue next season when regular reporting to BA on how many schools etc they attended will be the norm and fines in place if they don't comply with promoting the game.

Fine Weigh $6000. The rest was aussie folklore - protect your mates! That little shithead needs to back it up now - like Heall did w Barkley - otherwise LOSER!!

Community Service is a bad idea as a punishment because before long, all the school kids would wake up to the fact that these players are only here as punishment and not because they are interested in promoting the sport. Community service to a certain level should be undertaken by all players and not viewed as a means of punishing them.

I think community service is a good idea but if teams who are punished in this way aren't used to or don't like giving up their time for things like appearances, coaching clinics etc, isn't it counter productive for the public to have to see their sullen I-really-don't-want-to-be-here attitudes?

You'd be surprised TC2, up here he is actually one of the more well known players with the kids. Probably due to the fact that last season he looked like the Paddlepop Lion!

Interesting point Isaac, should individual player fines impose/penalties or all in's like this case have some sort of community service hours penalty on top of any $$ fines the NBL imposes, players in question teaching kids about bball, promoting NBL and teaching good sportsmanship.

In unrelated news, the General Manager of the National Basketball League, Chuck Harmison, has ruled that a total of $6000 in bonuses must be paid to the Perth Wildcats and the Gold Coast Blaze for their endeavours to expand NBL coverage across free to air television.
