Are non-top-tier ABL players paid?
I would say country footy in SA would be better paid.

Most clubs make a token payment. Many imports can't actually get paid due to Visa issues.
If you're a student and want a holiday down under, it's a good gig!

The rules state that each club in the CABL has a salary cap of $15,000. A single team (men or women)cannot go above $9,000 per season in payments.
Therefore what would usually happen is one team would have $9,000 in player payments leaving the other with only $6,000 maximum.
However, there are some players who are paid outside of these rules for coaching juniors, admin etc. which is permitted in a round about way.
To answer your question though, if your son is one of the lower players then unfortunately the salary cap is used on high profile players leaving the bench with very little.

In places like Bendigo & Cairns these figures are relevant but best case scenario. I played with Bulleen 20 years ago & got petrol money & dinner allowance on the road if we were lucky. Same applies now as the game hasn't grown in popularity. Our Prez would take it from his own pocket & i doubt he ever got reimbursed. I know when guys like Rigby & Hill went to Bendigo in the off season they picked up $800 -$1000 a week for the 20 week season.

Petrol & food money. NBL guys dropping down might pick up 20 - 30 k & imports get up to 40k. Decent aussie kids can get 15 - 20. Good extra cash on top of a good job but peanuts compared to AFL. Nic Naitanui looks a wonderful athlete & IMO been a great bball player but he'll earn $500k a year for the next 12 - 15 years. Good NBL players will be lucky to get a third of that. SEABL/ABA salaries haven't changed in 15 years.
