Junior Player Movement Gradings

Usually the best players play in the Div 1 team and this is a mixture of top and bottom age kids. Some clubs hold a spot or two in Div 1 to develop kids for the next year, some keep a group of kids together and play last years U12 Div 1's as U14 Div 2's, then they play U14 Div 1 as a top age. The Div 1 coach at most clubs makes the final decision in conjunction with a number of factors.

There's always hard decisions to make and parent see kids playing Divisions higher than theirs and think "they're not as good as Johnny".

Don't worry too much about whether they play as a Div 1 or a Div 6, just so long as they are having fun enjoying the game, keeping fit, meeting new people, growing through being challenged and keeping off the streets !

Just home - spot on

A quick formula to remember though:
Player goes up an age group (eg. U12-U14) then goes down a division.
Player has second year in an age group, usually goes up a division.

As mentioned above, this is not set in concrete, there are a lot of contributing factors.
And yes the selection is subjective, unfortunately we are dealing with humans and often volunteers.

So before getting upset about little Johnny, consider volunteering for a committee position within your own club. You can make changes from the inside and see the difficulties dealing with a lot of parents who, are all positive little Johnny or Johnette is the next NBL/WNBL player.
