The Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (PIT) has just been completed, and is a “last chance” tournament for seniors to show their wares in a game situation against their peers prior to the NBA draft.

Anatoly Bose played for Sales System Ltd who pretty much gave equal court time to everyone on their roster, and this is how they went:

Game 1: Sales System Ltd lost to K&D Rounds Landscaping (eventual champion) 74-78.
Bose started and scored 11 points on 4/9 shooting (3/5 3PT) to go with 6 rebounds and 2 turnovers in 28 minutes.

Game 2: Sales System Ltd lost to Norfolk Sports Club 71-72.
Bose came off the bench and scored 2 points on 1/6 shooting (0/4 3PT) to go with 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 block and 1 turnover in 21 minutes.

Game 3: Sales System Ltd defeated Mike Duman 95-58.
Bose came off the bench and scored 14 points on 6/7 shooting (2/2 3PT, 0/1 FT) to go with 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 turnover in just 18 minutes.

Apart from 1 poor game, Bose did quite well, however probably not enough to get drafted I’m afraid, but my fingers remained crossed for him.

Bose is at a traditionally weak school in a relatively weak conference. He is also by far the best player on the NSU team. This may sound a bit harsh on the rest of his team, but without him, NSU would have struggled to win a game.

I would expect he will take part in the Portsmouth Invitational, but I doubt he will get drafted into the NBA. Although I would not be surprised to see him asked to play in the NBA Summerleague. The NBL beckons I would imagine, although Europe could also be a realistic option, such as the Turkish, Italian or German leagues to at least begin with.

After leading the conference and ranking in the top ten in the nation in scoring average all season long, Nicholls State University senior forward Anatoly Bose earned First Team All-Southland Conference honors.

Bose Southland All-Conference First Team

Bose ran away with the Southland Conference regular season scoring title with a 22.0 point/game average and begins the week ranked eighth in the nation. Bose has scored 20 or more points in 19 of 27 games this season and became just the third player in school history with 2,000 career points by racking up 2,025 points through the end of the regular season.

It marks the third all-conference honor of Bose's career. The Colonel forward earned third team all-conference honors in 2008-09 before claiming first team honors in 2009-10.

Bose heads into the 2011 Southland Conference Tournament needing 60 points to pass Lamar's BB Davis for tenth on the league's career scoring list and 100 points to pass former Colonel Reggie Jackson for the ninth best point total in conference history and the best career point total in Nicholls' NCAA Division I history.

The Monarchs secured an automatic NCAA tournament berth in beating arch-rivals Virginia Commonwealth in the final of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament. Iliadis provided a spark off the bench with 10 points and 3 steals.

The Gael’s lost an intense West Coast Conference tournament final to Gonzaga. Delly was inspirational in carrying the Gael’s on his back in the early part of the 2nd half into the lead. Foul trouble, turnovers and lack of scoring support for Delly and McConnell hurt the Gael’s in the end who must now rely on being selected by the NCAA tournament committee for a spot in the big dance.

Today’s results:

Old Dominion (27-6, 14-4) defeated Virginia Commonwealth 70-65 – CAA Tourney Final
Iliadis came off the bench and scored 10 points on 3/5 shooting (2/3 3PT, 2/2 FT) to go with 1 assist, 3 steals and 1 turnover in only 11 minutes on court.

Saint Mary’s (24-8, 11-3) lost to Gonzaga 63-75 – WCC Tourney Final
Steindl came off the bench and scored 3 points on 1/2 shooting (1/2 3PT) to go with 1 foul and no turnovers in 9 minutes.
Dellavedova started and scored 21 points on 8/17 shooting (3/6 3PT, 2/2 FT) to go with 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 2 turnovers in 40 minutes.
Young came off the bench and scored 3 points on 1/4 shooting (1/2 FT) to go with 4 rebounds, 1 block and 1 turnover before fouling out in 22 minutes.

You may be right about Page...I'm not quite sure what ended up happening. In any case it was a season he would rather forget.

As for Dowdell vs Young - I personally would pick Young to be on my team given the choice. However Dowdell has done so much for his team this past season as a regular starter I have him ahead of Young on this past season alone.

Anatoly Bose is the pick of the graduating seniors, although Dowdell, Kelleher and Louis would be very handy rookies on any NBL roster next season. Clausen and Radford would also be hopeful of securing an opportunity in the NBL but may need to prove themselves in a league like the SEABL first.

Debate away!
