NBL Nice Guys
Well Brett Maher has to take the cake for mine.
Got a phone call a couple of weeks ago to be a ringer for his Charity golf day.
He was a friendly and not too big to laugh at himself.
I did although try my best to make a tool of myself. 2nd hole Brett hits one into the shrubs about 4metres away.
I say "Well they named the court after you but I reckon the golf course is safe"
Luckily he saw the funny side

^^^ I like it. Show really hot girls bringing 'nice', polite NBL guys back to meet their Mums.
And then wait for CJ Bruton to freak out at it.

Ok.. my list...
Mark Nash
Phil Doherty
John Szigeti
Rupert Sapwell
Oscar Foreman
Brett Maher
John Rillie

I'll give my top 5 coaches:
5. Cal Bruton (would talk to anyone, always pleasant);
4. Rob Beveridge (always a smile, great sense of humour)
3. Brian Goorjian (stopped and watched my U18s train whilst waiting to get his Boomers on court)
2. Adrian Hurley (always helpful); and at
1. Gordie McLeod (a true players coach).
Sorry for the hi-jack, all genuine nice guys IMO

DB5 - Still got my reversible abomination in the singlet drawer :) I was playing 2's mostly and 1's occassionally with that team.

Matt Campbell,Sav,Axel Dench, and the all time great guy. Stormin Norman Taylor

Nice. I was there in the reversible blue/maroon days. Al was coaching the 1s, Big John and Dwayne playing in the 1s. Good times out there. Glad I missed the orange!

DB5 - Was a TV player since before they were TV back in the NEBC days. I started out playing at St. Bernards stadium under Gary Coulter when they were still green and yellow. (Endured the bright orange phase too).
Wound up in Pero V's team as he was coming through (he's a couple years older). From there I played under Al for many years until making a move to Norwood for a bit, then Adelaide Uni and finally Uni Sa.

I'd agree with Al Green too... and Wheels, and Mahersy. Couldn't find nicer blokes off the court.

I don't see anyone voting for Scott Fisher...
I'd throw Al Green up there - has done a lot for bball off the court.
But I'm ex-Torrens Valley, so you know, pinch of salt.

No sense of humour - stay off the internet.

And how has no one mentioned Wheels? One of the nicest geeks ever.

Robert Rose once stopped on the way to a fund raiser for an orphanage to donate his kidney to a blind war veteran.
Although he had given blood that very morning and competleted a charity run for kids with childhood cancer, he still had the energy to perform the operation himself.
True story.

I agree with the Oscar Foreman calls, when he was here in NZ he hooked me up free tickets to Breakers games all the time just cos I added him on Facebook and support the team.

Gotta say Michael Johnson from Newcastle Falcons days.
Spoke to him as a young teen and he was very pleasant, knowledgeable and well spoken.
I remember him telling me that as an athlete he thought drinking alcohol would never help his performance and he adstained as a rule. Wish I had listened.
IMHO still one of Auatralia's best ever 2 guards. Offensively anyway.
In a non Gaze era he could have been anything.
