Is it time for a second NZ team
Gareth Morgan (rich guy who got richer from Trade Me) and his investor friends are loaded and into getting behind Wellington, they own the Phoenix now and would not be surprised if they got involved to make it happen, 1 mill bank guarantee is a piss in a pond to them. I think Wellington would find a way to get round any hurdles even if he didn't help.
Breakers have solid sponsorship deals in place and the owners have plenty of bank, solid on court with a growing fan base and plenty of local media coverage. You don't own a sports franchise to make money lol.

The breakers lose heaps of money every year from what i hear so i doubt a 2nd franchise is financially viable!

Breakers Academy is a huge part of player development in NZ. Breakers organization has been great, even the Tall Blacks use their facilities to train.
Breakers can't always hold on to every player coming through the ranks tho, Truman for example had to be let go and got snapped up by Perth and played pretty well last season. Would have been nice if he could have stayed in NZ playing for a New Zealand franchise. Corey Websters ban isn't going to last forever, Bradshaw and Tait as previously mentioned could have spots. Add a couple of NZNBL role players, 2 imports and any Australians you can poach and you have a team.
Wellington have a pretty good model to work off with the Breakers and can build their own Academy if they desire and it would give more NZNBL guys the opportunity in a tough league.
I would say the Breakers would have the pick of most of the players at the moment but guys want to play minutes and if Wellington's paying who knows what could happen.
Christchurch isn't really an option, they have historically struggled with even NZNBL franchises. It's Rugby country.
Wellington are pretty good at supporting their teams and there is money there to back it.

Mystro/MACDUB, How much influence would you say the Breakers Development Program has on the development of young Kiwi players?
Would you agree that Wellington find it difficult initially to access NBL calibre NZ juniors because they are all (or a large percentage) in the Breakers program?

I love the diea of a 2nd NZ team, but I would personally like to see a team in Brisbane first.
Will be interesting to see what evolves with plenty of talk about a 2nd team in Melbourne come season 2013/14 as well...

Wellington is the obvious choice. Christchurch would be the other choice, but the case would need to be strong. ChCh gives the North Island-South Island rivalry then.
The NBL might need to look over the netball's picket fence to see how successful that has been and pick out the good points.

Wellington Saints have a very good organization. I like the Breakers having a stacked team but would not mind if NZ players went to another NZ franchise.

Cairns have completed their roster with the signing of Import Rashard Tucker. The have also elevated their development player Scott Cook to their 10th spot.
Cairns are looking pretty good IMO. Abney, Black, Catt, Mee, Tucker. You would pencil them in for top 4 at this stage.
