Yep Dell is the only option really. Gibbo and Patty are both SG's. Patty only plays PG cos of his speed and size. Dell already runs the offence better than either, my only concern w him is an inconsistent jump shot, but hey that's nothing new with this team.

Delly may not be ready to "run the team", but to be honest, neither is Gibson.

The NBL have rejected a contract offered by the Sydney Spirit to Luke Martin due to salary crap restrictions and minimum payment requirements.

Spirit coach Rob Beveridge says the cap has failed to bring parity to the league and should be abandoned:

"Our club is 100 per cent legitimately abiding by the rules and regulations of the league and we are not over the salary cap and would love to throw a lifeline to one of our local Sydney products," Beveridge said.

Beveridge [is] frustrated that the NBL has stepped in to block the Spirit giving a lifeline to a local Sydney player on a minimum $10,000-base contract.

NBL teams must conform to a points cap of 68, players rated on a scale of 1-10. Martin is rated a five, but the Spirit only have four points to spare.

Martin's management has failed twice on appeal to have his points rating reduced for exceptional circumstances.

How does everyone feel about this? The Spirit, tipped to sit at the bottom of the ladder, are trying to add a local guy to the team (a player who has been burnt recently by a number of clubs), someone who's hardly going to rocket his team to the top of the ladder, and they're denied by both caps!

On the topic of the salary cap, you have teams "renegotiating" contracts (what a load of crap, I wouldn't buy that for a second - actual renegotiations would happen quite rarely) to fit in players like Ebi Ere.

And then on the points crap, how do players like Martin or Matt Sutton ever have a chance of remaining in the league? Sutton was auto-ranked a 5 before asking for a review. At 5, he had the same ranking as Gary Boodnikoff, and he was one off Tony Rampton's 6 points or Rashad Tucker or Aaron Grabau on 6 also. Martin should be a 4, and Sutton should be a 2.

In the article, Chuck Harmison comments on the salary cap:

"It's like a speed limit, they know it's there, you cheat it at your own risk and if you get caught you'll get penalised,' he said.

"We're the first to admit we haven't penalised anybody in a number of years."

And Luke Martin says he rang Harmison personally:

"He told me he has to enforce the rules to achieve parity in the league. A couple of days later I learned Ebi Ere, last year's runner-up MVP, had signed with the defending champions, the Melbourne Tigers."

Hardly seems fair.

The NBL Players Association is now fighting his case, arguing a restriction of trade.

LC agree with you mate. Im still worried about our outside shooting. damn its bad. i hope PC can continue with his outside shot, he is the only person that looks close to hitting the outside shot.

Delly was a bit off for mine. he had a good small period in the final term. Barlow was very dissapointing and Baynes had the fumbles and the walkies. Wortho did play hard and did well i thought. other then him and PC i think all the rest have got alot of work to do and prove they deserve a shot to make the final 12. Its a shame Jawai is in the US, would be nice to see where his game is at, atm. Did we look slow or was it just me.

Also can we say due to gibbo getting over 30 mins and marto only 9 mins that gibbo is more likely heading to london.

I'd like to see...

- Broekoff get a decetn chance to show what he can offer
- Crawford another chance to show he can hit the three when needed do demonstrate some level of consistency and his own confidence
- Baynes to put up hs hand and demand a place in the Boomers final 12
- Barlow to demonstrate why he should be consideration for the Boomers final 12
- Delly to show that this is 'his' team to run in the absence of Mills, and put his hand up to play alongside Mills at London for decent minutes
- Neilsen to show some of the 'grunt' shown by Wortho in game 1
