2 basketball flag bearer in 4 Olympics. More money
The afl and nrl clearly show the only way a national comp can easily be sustained is big juicy tv deals. Soccer is in trouble in some areas in this country and only survives on the world cup windfall. Basketball is one of the few Olympic and world sports which survives in it's own right on a national level in both male and female teams. It will always be tough to attract dollars for the sport without television cove rage and ratings pressure. It is disappointing but not surprising that basketball is poorly funded in this state perhaps the level of negativity amongst it's own "supporters" is a factor. Participation numbers are good but facilities were poor but tell me how many indoor stadiums were built by Rudd in schools over the last 4 years?
