St clair Xmas carnival

The St.Clair X-Mas Carnival is run for both Junior & Senior teams & this years carnival is the 36th year and it will run over the weekend of 14th, 15th & 16th December 2012.

Junior teams consists of players from div 2 - 5.
If div 1 teams want to enter they usually enter in the older age group.

Senior teams - Mens A have teams with current & ex ABL players involved, the last couple of years the SA Country have also nominated teams in this grade.
Mens B usually div 2 - 3 standard.
Mens C usually div 3 - 4 standard.
Mens D usually Social teams.

Womens teams have consisted of current & ex ABL players & SA Country but this will usually depend on nominations year by year.
We would like to be able to provide for 2 grades one more experience and one for social teams.

We also have a mixed grade which mostly runs at a div 3 - 4 standard of teams.

If you are interested in details please email basketballsa@adam.com.au and we will send through a nomination pack for this years carnival.

There seems to be a preoccupation with channeling D and zone defense so that players have to be introduced to their oppostion by telephone in girls basketball.
Skilled, threatening defense, in your face and nasty seems to have gone out of fashion and even ineffectual zones are thought to be the better option.
Over the past few months I've seen zones that were threeed to extinction and worse, ones that yieded to drive after drive yet the coaches maintained it.
Just why the escort service called channeling has so beguilded the coaching fraternity Im not sure but it destroys the naturally gifted player from exhibiting their defensive skills and surely must be only part of defensive strategy not all of it?.
