R15 Sixers vs Breakers

Mutley- Have also wondered that.

I think it's more d.j's casual, on court manorisms and motions that may come across as lazy, maybe? It's not like the guy is never, completely not trying. Has sufferes under clarke this season I.M.O.

Heritage round; nice, but a total flop on entertainment. next year, lets play away ay?

Overall, I didnt think it was so bad, although the margin was pretty bad which led me to leave early. Normally a hardened supporter but the beers during the game kill me, so left early via the loo.

As for the first half, was pretty good. The 3rd quarter, MAN!, to post your first points of the quarter via free throws at 04:03 left, says it all doesnt it. Even with a TV Timeout, we still struggled. Im glad we only have to watch this coach hand out his insulting crap another 3 times at home. And subbing on and off in the third was pitiful. If it doesnt look like its working, then change it.

If they hire clark is any form next year, i intend to boycott going. The only bonus for him this week was he didnt get booed or jeered.

Years ago

Johnson was MVP last season. Club did well to get him signed for 3 years given the other inclusions and what they must cost to overall cap. Yeah, is not a beast defensively, but could be another to benifit from different coaching formulas. Surely, given potential, age, what we have seen if him already etc, the good should outweigh the bad.

"Even at the very top, it is believed that getting rid of Marty could jeopardise the rest of the season."

Wait.

What?

Also - old school cheerleaders was by far the best part of Sunday.

Years ago

You're right Isaac. Cadee is 2-24 on threes at home. Yep, 8%

Amazingly he's 11-27 on the road. 41%

Years ago

Anon, I disagree that J is the Tomic of the NBL. Maybe the Philippoussis?

Anonymous
Years ago

nice one bucketman! Couldn't agree more!

And this goes for just about everyone in the league. So many of the NBL players opt for layups, but if I had hops like half of these guys I would be trying to throw it down every chance i had.

Years ago

Ouch, not even Townsville fans went to that level with Ben Allen while losing 10 games straight.

Years ago

"How far behind did Marty want to let his team fall behind before changing it up, on both ends."

Sadly, is Marty saving up all his timeouts to cash them in at season's end. When things are working out, change it up or call a time out.

Years ago

If Petrie was healthy, I would play him 40 mins every week. Typifies competitive spirit and along with Gibson shows pride in everything they do. We need Johnson to realise a couple of things:

One. You are 7 foot. Young. Can jump (kinda) DUNK the (expletive)ing ball!!!!!!

Two. Rebounds can be acquired at both ends of the court. Work a bit harder to get in for them.

And Three. Even if you think you can't...... Try to DUNK IT!!!!

Even a missed dunk inspires hope into team mates and the crowd of what might occur. Creates energy and excitement. That's how I remember basketball being played.

Years ago

I actually liked the idea of bringing schensch of the bench and starting petrie alongside Johnson. Similar to the way the bullets used bradtke in their championship season. Also, doesn't mean schensh has to play less minutes then either of them, just a better starting balance IMO.

Maybe bench cadee and start SC? I like gibbo at the 1 more than the 2, but obviously can handle both.

With or without cj would make no differnce! Just get over it every 1!

Years ago

Would clarke consider walking?

Years ago

Didn't he do that anyway Isaac.

Years ago

Christopherson -1 Cadee 1 Weigh 2 . pretty bad.
All the rest pretty effecient/effective ,
like Petrie 19 , not used to big minutes here though
Pero - Daly , pretty to watch .

Years ago

It seemed the plan was to exploit Christopherson's size on defence. Abercrombie backed him down and shot over the top of him while Henry "All I do at BMC is chuck bricks" Henry and "i prefer Drumsticks" Corletto got easy looks against him at the perimeter. Breakers put on a master class of recognising how to best exploit the Sixers on defence.

Wonder how useful Warbout would have been if given the job of bumping around Mika and keeping him off the boards.

Years ago

Cadee hasn't looked confident all season. I think these young players are convinced that playing under him is in the best interest of their careers, when really, they actually seem to be suffering? I really rate weigh as a player but he just looks lost out there sometimes, under that system.

Years ago

Jack yes some of the cheerleaders caught my eye...mainly Tina and Emma forgotten rest of others, they must be in their late 30s maybe your eyein the blond

Years ago

I was hoping for a dance off Big Ads.

Years ago

Yep, they made my afternoon too Jack.

Years ago

Pledger rolled his ankle against the Hawks on Thursday. Was a maybe to play but is still hobbling around on it.

Only Hudson didn't score in double figures out of NZ's starters. All of NZ's players bar the injured Pledger scored and Adelaide matched NZ on the rebound count.

Years ago

The "old style" cheerleaders were the highlight. I've re-fallen in love with one of them. Not too sure of her name

Years ago

Good first half ,getting everyone involved,Pero not playing 2nd half i dont understand,Daly Pero combination was good .sixers 10 points in 3rd,2nd half fade again .Sixers need start winning again but i doubt they will win 50%of their remainder games.

Years ago

Christopherson barely gets the ball. Both him and weigh would benifit from better offensive systems.

The pattern of the season is all to familiar-positive start, string of losses, glimourbof hope (sydney game) but followed by a poor performance. Obviously never expected the breakers to be pushovers, but sensed a more inspired performance after last week. Really was ugly in that 2nd half.

Not sure cadee is really benifiting at all from playing under clarke, nor was mitch and weigh is not. Developement player is taking his minutes, confidence looks shot.

I'm surprised that time out with 1min 29 secs to play didn't spark a 15 point turn around for us.

Years ago

^^ Should have read - How could they not ratify Clarke's decision...

Years ago

Marcus, I seem to remember the board making it absolutely clear that it was Clarke's decision to give CJ the boot. How could they not? Then they'd have to fire Clarke. I think it is a simple case of giving the man enough rope... Wish CJ could play for the Hawks. That would at least add some spice to the rest of this sorry season.

Years ago

@BK, I broadly commented on Clarkes comments, didn't say I agreed with them all. It's clear christopherson isn't firing, but his history suggests he can definitely shoot. He is just not doing it for us!!!

NZ deserves credit for their second half and we need our heads analysed. Maybe it's a less energy = poor decision making from some of our players, not sure but something clearly is a miss. While Clarke deserves criticism, I'm not sure he or any coach could influence our players in a manner that could reverse their mind set. NZ lift the intercity, we pack our dacks and make immature errors. It would do your head in if you we're in charge.

Clearly Schenscher is a integral cog in our system. Hope he is back from now on.

Years ago

At least the first quarter had an element of fun to it with the Daly-Pero combo scoring machine and the heritage Sixers Girls dusting off the dance moves. In this case it truly was a bit of heritage as it reminded me of what it used to be like to go to the Powerhouse...

Years ago

Really dissapointing performance. Just looked so disorganised and uninspired. Really thought we were a chance at this one, home court, nz backing up etc. Clarkes rotations really are questionable. Why did daly play the entire last qtr when season is on the line? Cannot work out the persistance with playing 3 point guards at once. Still looked disorganised.

Yeah, obviously you gotta acknowledge nz as a very decent team, but they were hardly pushed out of 1st gear and just coasted along all game on an opposotion court. Just wasn't a good enough performance given the importance of the result I.M.O.

Years ago

Plain and simple; too much depth.

Years ago

I agree Daly and Pero combined well and I was bemused as to why Pero didn't get another spell. He'll get cut next week for not missing lol.

Years ago

JOaRiDrAN, how was that $200 bet?

Abercrombie coming right by the looks and good contribution from the bench.

Are you serious bucket man Marty said scott can "knock shots" how many shots has he got in since he's been here that sounds like a bit of polishing to me also i thought they were looking for an import who can drive to the basket and create his own shot. How many times has scott driven to the basket and kicked the ball back out to the three point line. Everything Marty says is polished to try and make him look like the good guy. Now iv'e got that out the way i really hope last weeks game was the turnning point but iv'e been disappointed to many times to get my hopes up i think NZ probably got a scare against wollongong on friday night and will come out blazing from the start.I will be at the game cheering the 6ers on and willing them to win with all my heart unfortunatly my head is saying we will lose

Years ago

I actually thought Clarkes comments were honest and refreshing. I was good to read his aspect of the current state and not polish it up to be something it's not. They say the best time to judge a leader is when the stocks are at their lowest. Could be a appropriate time to judge..

Years ago

lmao, not the most flattering of comments to the media from your Coach.

Years ago

"Another person to give Gibbo and Steve......a chance to rest"

You know your import isn't awesome if that's listed as one of his main attributes. Plus where Clarke said he "probably not" going to be a superstar. Will be funny if that's what ends up on his NBLWiki page.

"Was not a superstar but was very helpful for resting tired players."

Breakers are just going at the minute, not blitzing but doing enough to get by.. Sixers by 8.

Years ago

I think it will be close and their is a chance of a Sixers upset but I think winning becomes a habit and habits can be hard to break. 3peat.

Anonymous
Years ago

Sixers are a sure thing.

Years ago

Yeah, I know there's no such place. For most of the Hackham lads I knew year 8 was the best years of high school.

Years ago

Jack,

"Hackham High"??? No such place exists.

Most of us Hackham boys are old enough to start apprenticeships by the time we graduate from primary school. Why should we bother doing another 10 years of schooling at a high school?

Anonymous
Years ago

I think this week will say a lot about where the Sixers are at overall. We're playing the benchmark side, we have the 20 point capitulation hanging over our heads and we're in do-or-die mode as far as the finals go.

Was last week a turning point or a brief respite from the slide?

Hoping the Sixers turn it on.

Years ago

Wow Jack, you used as many analogies as Lance Armstrong used PED's during his cycling career!

If the team comes out confident and thinks it can win it will. Must take on New Zealand in all aspects (boards, ball pressure etc) and not relent.

The aftermath of this one should be very interesting.

Years ago

Has anyone else ever wonder if NZ's recent practice of just beating Adelaide on BMC has been a deliberate ploy to avoid boredom?

I'm hoping it goes terribly wrong for them on Sunday if that's been the case. I agree with JT- Go Sixers (& not Sixes which is an entirely different organisation!!!!!)
