Having 1 player outside the salary/points cap?
What about a reduced salary cap (maybe in the ballpark of $800-900k), allow one import within the cap, and allow for one (somewhat) unrestricted signing outside the cap - an automatic 10-point player.
Not that I'm necessarily in favor of the idea, but I'm certain it's feasible and would probably only advantage Perth and perhaps Melbourne: two markets which could use marquee players to increase the NBL's exposure.

In a 40 minute league would an ex NBA player get a rest at all.
I'm asking in all seriousness as watching the Wildcats last season it felt AFL influenced that nobody stayed on court with much fatigue. Would this ex NBA player play more than 30 minutes a game, would it be worth it?
If it comes about I hope whomever it is, has a great work ethic, helps our youngsters and promotes the game like Johnny Flynn did.
More Johnny Flynn's would be a thrill

I'm sure they could find a couple of mill for the right player if they wanted to/were allowed.
And like NZ need any better players than what are available under the current salary cap.

someone will fork out big $ for a marquee player and then everyone (poorer teams) will cry foul.
Imagine the team NZ or Perth could build?
It would become a pissing contest between wealthy franchise owners leaving out the community model teams which are even more important these days in terms of the league surviving.
