SEABL 2014 Thread
Congratulations to every one.

Congratulations to every one who was involved on the night and to all those who were lucky enough to receive an award for the SEABL 2014.

They are clueless because they were not talking about Paul and they still got their facts wrong. Both coaches have a long list of accomplishments and Nuna will benefit from both coaches being there.

Pretty sure Michael is on point... Anyone who knows the group would know that there's a budget and some played for less that they're worth because they love the coach.
There's a lot of "anon's" on here who seem to think they know the way it all works.... So #826, ah please, take a seat

No I don't work for the club and this is all public knowledge..all you have to do is ask..as I did. Men and women are the SOLO Dandenong Rangers not Jayco.

Isn't the VYCW coach from Dandenong and coached second, third and fourth teams?
No he coached DIV2 college in the states. At Dandy coached U20's, SEABL Assistant, coached his daughters team in u12.5, and last season at dandy coached the 14.2's to a 8th place finish in VC..
And yes the coach is from Dandy.. Paul Flynn.

@ #495810
ummm would coaching Dandenong SEABL to the finals and winning an 18's national championship a season ago count as runs on the board?
Your clueless mate

Okay here's the deal. Cambage and others are paid by sponsors. WNBL and SEABL do not work off the same budget. Any Sponsors that are acquired by SEABL goes to the overall dandenong Juniors/ Seniors program and stadium where as the WNBL has the ability to commission and keep proceeds from their sponsorships and it goes directly to the team budget. No matter how much SEABL gets in sponsorship the budget remains the same. That's how they don't overspend their means.

Coach loves him and vise versa just too big a numbers for dandy to match.

Anon, Lewis has a gig in Malaysia at the moment and has some bigger, better offers on the table from other parties

Coaching Movments Women.

Recap of Conf Finals now up on PnR:
SEABL Conference Finals: Ben Allen and Kathleen Scheer Nail Buzzer Beaters To Set Up Two Enticing Grand Finals
Ben Allen is the toast of Mt. Gambier, knocking down a three to hand the Pioneers the South Conference with a 70-68 victory over the Kilsyth Cobras.
In Nunawading's win over Geelong, Matt O’Hea put in the performance of his life, hitting 8-11 from downtown for 32 points while Mitch Creek proved a handful, scoring 31.
The Hobart Lady Chargers’ incredible second half of the season has continued after Kathleen Scheer (22 points, 6 rebounds) drilled a three point dagger with 1.9 seconds left in overtime to sink the Bendigo Lady Braves.

Macdonald and Conn??? What league have you been watching??
Maybe in years past but Mitch Creek has been the best performer on that team this year.
No DQ in your list? Unbelievable....
I think DQ, Jenkins, Lewis, Horton would be the front runners....
Booker missed too many games.

It is now down to just a handful of teams...
The latest recap is now up on PnR:
SEABL Preliminary Finals: Geelong cruise to Victory while Rangers Women bundle out

Geelong is literally over the bridge from Melbourne who has all those large venues so don't fancy your chances, but would love to see another NBL team as VIC really could use one, not sure if you could swing a WNBL as we already have 3, which is two more than any other state.

Thanks anons, while purely for basketball alone you may have a point, however the city also needs a venue to cater for other events and the potential growth of the region that may see us move into NBL, and WNBL, maybe even National Netball not to mention live acts and concerts or other conventions etc...
While my comment was specifically on basketball, people in the area would use a stadium of the capacity I have mentioned for more than just hoops, but I do appreciate people have their own opinions cheers.

All for trying to jazz it up a bit but who ever is in charge of their artistic direction needs to go back to school, it's sucks big time sorry lol

Fans mustn't have been working the times I have been t nunawadding s the players finish off their warm up and sort gem still with smoke covering the court. Plus it's just ridiculous to say the least and yes the grim reaper is cringe worthy I'd be embarrassed if it was my club.
As for bigger venues, nbl struggle to fill the cage and that's only 2000 seat I think, that's why they moved there as Vodafone was too big. For wnbl they rarely pack the state centre ,dandenong or bendigo. Geelong certainly dies not need a 6 or 7 thousand seat stadium fir basketball lol.

Regardless of any apparent hazards etc... Pretty sure all that stuff is safe anyway - it's a real poor man's attempt at replicating Geelong.. When I went there I felt sorry for all the Nunawading people who obviously think it's the bees knees.. Do it properly or don't do it at all.. It just gets embarrassing
And a grim reaper standing in the middle during the national anthem is just plain disrespectful!

Association models differ, some own their own venue and therefore control their own destiny.
Some rent from a business and have a working relationship, but may be held back because of this or benefit from it depending on the economy.
Then there are those who rent from their local council therefore depending on their relationship or how basketball friendly their local council is.
I have no idea of Nunawading's model, however it amazes me how some zones have managed to generate the influence and cooperation of local government, council and business to build multi million $$$ venues where others continue to struggle in this regard.
Examples I can come up with off the top of my head are the new State Centre near Knox, the Sunbury expansion, the Werribee expansion and the one at Altona.
Good luck to them, I wish Geelong could get some of the millions being pumped into the AFL ground down here and rediect those dollars into basketball.
The Supercatse effectively have 4 courts at one venue and access to 2-3 decent courts down the road at Corio while the Stingrays have 4 courts at their venue in South Geelong and Bellarine share 3 or 4 courts with their local school on the Peninsula.
Not complaining as things are pretty good and improving in the area, but for a future NBL expansion and to cater for population growth down here we need something bigger, not just more courts either, more like a 5,000 - 7,000 capacity stadium...
Maybe one day!

That smoke is a health hazard for athletes, what idiot thought of that, it lingers in the air, and they then expect athletes to warm up in it, really bright especially for anyone with asthma or even in the spectators area with any breathing issue. Smoke machines have no place in a sporting venue

Not sure where the stream was coming from during the Supercats v Rangers men's game on Sunday but it looked great on the big screens over the centre of the court and they switched to the girl's game frequently with no obvious issues there either.
Must say, it was just fantastic to watch the game from that stadium, is there a better SEABL venue than the Arena, if so where?

Clap Clap and 3 votes to the three refs in Geelong yesterday for destroying what should have been a good game... Absolutely screwed the Rangers over and frustrated the Supercats players, coaches and supporters. Chapman and Kelly need to come down a level or three.. Two most arrogant refs I have ever seen and the third wheel was out of his depth... Like seriously, what ref beats their chest after the national anthem? Grade a W****R
Geelong played freakin well and should be tough for Nunawading. But if those three stooges are in charge again then expect another promoted mouthwaterer to be turned into crap.

Yes Geelong played well today in the women's, dandenong had no defensive game at all, and frankly looked nothing like the team they have all season because of it. Anderson coached exactly the same as last week, did not use her bench effectively until the last quarter really, then just as they made a run for home she switched it back to those players who had failed to apply any defensive pressure all game. Good luck to Geelong both men and women, deserving winners today.

Super-CAT Sunday saw two awesome displays by the Geelong Men and Women, well done and better luck next year to the Rangers.
The Lady Supercats proved they have the game and the team to win away from home and if they can continue to play confidently I believe they can now go all the way this year.
The Men's Supercats had no passengers today, played strong and discipline basketball with more determination than their opponents. They may have let it slip against the Specters last time, but if their form says like it did today they won't make that mistake again!

Let's hope dandenong have more sense than some give them credit for. They would be crazy to replace either Anderson or perry , both are amazing coaches who not only get results but are respected by their players and peers. Nothing against Lowry he's probably a great guy but these two coaches have earned their positions.

Nix 49, the CEO has not spoken to either coach for months. Seem strange to you? And then rumours about sounding out other coaches combined with questions about next season from coaches - no answers. While it would seem crazy to not reappoint either coach, you can't help but wonder, with all this combined, whether the rumours are indeed correct.
I know straight from the horses mouth that Perry is very keen to continue coaching at Dandy next season. He is not seeking any other appointment. So it is up to Dandy hierarchy what happens next

By why would you replace Anderson or Perry with Lowry , the players want to play for these coaches. Can't see Lowry having that kind of connection, so "if it ain't broke "as they say

Think Dandy Men and Women will dispense with both Geelong teams. Larissa will rotate her bench better so should end up being a lot stronger than Geelong
Not if last weekend is any indication, rangers women need to start playing defence

SEABL Semi Finals Recap now up on PnR:
SEABL Semi Finals: Another Comeback For Nunawading while the Lady Spartans Cause A Huge Upset
In the East Conference, the Nunawading Spectres survived a thriller against the Geelong Supercats, requiring a fourth quarter comeback for the fourth consecutive game.
The Hobart Lady Chargers will visit Frankston next weekend after they overcame a sluggish start to beat the Kilsyth Lady Cobras, 64-57.

Looking forward to the SEABL games this weekend, Geelong v Dandenong. Not sure that dispensing one team or another easily will eventuate, they seem pretty close to me, however time will tell!

Think Dandy Men and Women will dispense with both Geelong teams. Larissa will rotate her bench better so should end up being a lot stronger than Geelong

NWBU finished 3 weeks ago, should be fresh.

Lowry coaching would mean he would actually have to work, not just walk around Dandenong socialising, nice guy but does stuff all from what I hear
Leave the coaches as they are , he could never fill their shoes, maybe he could do youth league instead lol

Round 20 Recap now up on PnR thanks to Grant Richardson:
SEABL Round 20: Spectres Take Top Spot while the Lady Blues Sweep Into Second
The Nunawading Spectres took top spot in the East Conference on the last day of the regular season as they defeated the Kilsyth Cobras and Dandenong Rangers in an impressive round.
The Frankston Lady Blues will head into the finals full of confidence after sweeping the Tasmanian road trip to snatch second place in the South Conference. They leapfrogged the Hobart Lady Chargers on Friday night, who missed a chance to grab top spot and instead fell to third.

Nothing wrong with 3rd for Dandenong... Just ask anyone who was around last year!

Ok anon accept if you say he was there, but is this only since he got the job.Did notice the day of the YLW final he thought it more important to go to the coaches clinic rather than be at the girls game where I believe he should have been.
My last comment is this is the most important time for him to Be totally immersed in the senior program setup for 2015 and I honestly wish hm the best in re establishing our flagship program.

The board was paying attention but only to what Shanahan was telling them. What can you expect when 99% of the board never go to games.

Sorry not speculating Shanahans is a done deal.extension is supposedly on the basis of giving the board time to review what he does as no one on the board apparently knows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Isn't it funny that 2 years ago and for years prior the Knox SEABL coaching jobs were up there with the most sought after jobs in the league, not anymore. How sad for our great club.

DP wouldn't want all the crap at Knox haha

Just saw Dandenong whip the pants of Sandringham. Down by 1 at qtr time and just destroyed them after that. Montreal had 22 points in the first half alone

Who is the Knox kid who quit? Also to all the Knox stalwarts just forget Shanahan being reappointed as it is just going happen..He has the members of the board who"are making all the decisions" wrapped around his little finger.
Also thank you to Cheryl for what she did in her time at Knox.If people reckon we're in trouble before god help us now with the reappointment and loosing Cheryl .
