WA SBL Semi Finals (Week 2): Buccs, Eagles men and Lightning, Flames women to face off in deciders

Geraldton will play East Perth in the men’s decider while Rockingham will face Lakeside in the women’s final after all four teams won through in clean sweeps.

East Perth sent Perth to their first loss in nearly two months of basketball with a vital home win to take a 1-0 series lead and be on the brink of a grand final, while women’s favourites Rockingham and Lakeside are both in the box seat to meet in the decider after first-up away wins.

WA SBL Quarter Finals (Week 2): Lightning men progress in triple OT thriller

Lakeside’s men moved into the final four with a triple overtime win over Stirling in the decisive third game of their series, while East Perth also moved on with an impressive defeat of Rockingham in their deciding encounter. In the women’s competition, Kalamunda fought back from 1-0 down to win twice at home and send Cockburn crashing out of the playoffs.

WA SBL Quarter Finals (Week 1): Eagles men upset Flames to take early lead

East Perth’s men have taken a 1-0 lead in their finals series’ with Rockingham after upsetting the Flames in game one. Elsewhere, Geraldton and Perth secured dominant away wins to be in control of their series’, while women’s title fancies Rockingham, Lakeside and Joondalup all won away from home to take the early advantage as they look to advance to the final four.

WA SBL Round 20: Redbacks men, Lightning women enter post-season red-hot as Wolves men miss top eight

Perth’s men and Lakeside’s women will go into the 2014 SBL finals as the hottest teams in their respective competitions after both continued to win in the final round of the season. With both sides securing a top four spot they will be poised to strike as they make a run at the title. One side who won’t be doing such things is Joondalup’s men, who failed to qualify for the playoffs after a gallant final round loss to Lakeside.

Ouch indeed!

WA SBL Round 19: Buccs men looking shaky as Tigers women seem finals bound

Geraldton’s men continued their patchy form ahead of the finals, splitting their weekend with another poor loss followed by an explosive win. The Buccs sit just one win clear on top of the ladder and will enter the finals on shaky ground after looking ominous earlier in the season. In the women’s competition, Willetton look to have secured an unlikely finals berth thanks to a strong win against high-flying Joondalup, with the Tigers turning their once-flailing season around in the final month of SBL 2014.

18-game winless streak, ouch.

Lakeside’s men continued their push up the ladder with a victory over second-placed Rockingham which left them just a win behind the Flames in the battle for second place, while Perth’s women finally broke their 2014 SBL season duck in a brilliant victory over finals contenders South West, setting the Slammers back considerably in their bid to play finals.

WA SBL Round 17: Magic men and Suns, Lightning women finding form at the right time

Mandurah’s men, and Kalamunda and Lakeside’s women are all running into finals time on the back of big winning streaks. Mandurah caused an upset against Lakeside to continue their charge home, while Kalamunda moved into the top four with a win over previously in-form Stirling.

WA SBL Round 16: Eagles men, Suns women looking dangerous as men’s playoff picture remains blurry

A single win separates fourth from ninth in the men’s SBL standings after sixteen rounds, leaving plenty to the imagination with just a month of the regular season remaining. Meanwhile, East Perth’s men and Kalamunda’s women continue to look like genuine title threats from outside the top four as they continued their red-hot form, with the Eagles in particular thrashing second-placed Rockingham in an ominous warning for the rest of the league.

WA SBL Round 15: Top sides suffer shock defeats as Suns men, women find form

Kalamunda is the talk of the league after the Eastern Suns notched big wins over Rockingham in both divisions, with the women’s side handing the Flames their first defeat of the campaign in the process. Geraldton were the other big side to drop a game in round 15 of the SBL season as the Buccs fell to Willetton to break a twelve game winning streak.

WA SBL Round 14: Eagles men flying as Buccs men, Flames women continue dominance

East Perth’s men continued their purple patch of form since the arrival of NBL star Tom Jervis with another strong win, while Geraldton (nine game winning streak) and Rockingham (seventeen game winning streak) continued to dominate at the top of the men’s and women’s SBL competitions respectively.

Should be a good crowd at the magic vs suns game next Sunday. Oh wait a minute magic vs suns sbl game is at Mandurah, while the Mandurah juniors are playing the suns in Kalamunda. Great fixturing by BWA, no crowd at an sbl game because the two junior clubs are playing at another venue. Is BWA a government department? Or do the people producing the fixtures not look at the wabl comp when scheduling Sunday sbl games.

WA SBL Round 12: Wolves men continue to slide as Slammers women move into top eight

Joondalup lost twice in round 12 of SBL action to slip to the brink of the top eight, with the Wolves now having lost their past four games. In the women’s competition, South West halted Stirling’s win streak with a huge win that propelled them into the top eight on the back of three straight wins.

WA SBL Round 11: Flames men suffer winless weekend to lose top spot as Senators women stay hot

Rockingham’s men endured a horror weekend to fall from top spot, with shock losses to East Perth and Cockburn ending their tenure on top of the league. Stirling flew into the top four of the women’s league with their fourth and fifth straight wins, with the Senators taking the scalp of Lakeside in the process.

WA SBL Round 10: Flames, Buccs men move clear as Redbacks women find promising form

Rockingham and Geraldton are now in what seems to be a two horse race for the minor premiership after both sides continued their winning ways in round ten SBL action, while in the women’s competition it was the winless Perth Redbacks who pushed undefeated Rockingham all the way to show some much-needed improvement.

Statistical Leaders - Men!

Some very good players on some of the rosters too. Not as deep as some other state leagues, but certainly some decent talent.

WA SBL Round 9: Flames women survive scare to stay undefeated as Slammers men continue to climb

Rockingham made it 11 from 11 to start the season despite falling over the line against a gallant Willetton in the women’s competition, while South West continued to be the hottest team in the men’s side of the league as they enjoyed another perfect weekend with wins over Lakeside and Stirling.

Geraldton closed to within a single win of top-placed Rockingham with a convincing victory over the Flames in the men’s competition to headline round eight SBL action, while Mandurah’s women continued to be red-hot as they moved into second spot on the table with their fifth straight win.

WA SBL Round 7: Flames topple Lightning in clash of undefeated women

Rockingham is the only women’s side to be without a loss in SBL season 2014 after they sent the previously undefeated Lakeside packing in a potential grand-final matchup. In the men’s competition, Rockingham suffered their second loss as the standings bunched up even further, with just 2 losses now separating the entire top eight after seven rounds of action.

Round 6 has been won and done...

WA SBL Round 6: Easter upsets blow competition wide open

Easter long-weekend SBL action saw the men’s competition blown wide open with perennial powerhouses Joondalup and Lakeside suffering defeat and only a single loss separating second from eighth by round’s end. Rockingham and Lakeside continued to dominate the women’s competition as the only two undefeated teams remaining in 2014, however more upsets meant mid-table congestion after six rounds.

West australian basketball league. Not rocket science. It also shits me how the southern States rate their league so highly. I think the QBL is possibly stronger.

Looks like teams are very weak with maybe just one or two decent players hence why they can score so much. Not a good comp at all compared to the Vic comps and SEABL

Here are the headlines you'll read tomorrow;

* KG struggles from the field going 1/16 but Celts get the win thanks to Paul Pierce scoring 52 of his 53 pts in the final term. Hawks coach Woodsen fired.

* In a freak accident Greg Oden misses his mouth and squirts gatorade into his eyes. He leaves the game on a stretcher, his vision lost. Somewhere in the crowd a fan is heard yelling 'Thats why you wear a mask' It was later revealed to be Will Purdue.

* Kobe buys into the whole 'battle of the MVP's and decides to torch NO for 76pts. CP3 has 45 assists in the Hornets win.

* 76ers get a big win in Toronto, tainted somewhat because Raptors all-star Chris Bosh leaves the team to begin filming 'Jurassic Park 5' where he will star as human-dinosaur hybrid.

* Magic employ a zone defence with Howard stationed under the basket, with the other 4 players under the basket in offence awaiting the outlet pass. Superman has 62 boards and 22 blocks as the magic win 105-67.
Lewis still shoots 1/19.

* In a statement from his agent, Stephon Marbury claims 'I am not an ignoranus, i know when i'm not wanted. But i will continue to do all i can to be the bestest player the New Yorks has ever been.'
