Raises an intruiging point this, I would hazzard a guess that if the NBL improved and followed a similar path to that of the A-League we may in fact see more of a connection with European League players.
However, why would they even consider our league?
1. The money is inferior to almost any other national league I bleieve (at the moment).
2. The life style would be attractive, if we could support that with the extra cash needed to make them want to come all this way.
3. Development - can they get a better level of coaching or play here?
4. Exposure - can a player do an 'Ennis' and is it viable for them to come here from Euroleague and rack up the stats to impress an NBA coach?
I can't see that there is enough incentive for players considerdd good enough to be worth paying import money, unlike what is happening in the A-League for example.
That said, if a cashed-up Euroleague club or NBA club wanted to join forces with one of our NBL clubs like the Melbourne City-Manchester City partnership, well then all bets are off and a new era of hoops in Australia would be born...
