The tournament recap us now up on PnR, including All-Tournament teams and MVP's.
Tournament Recap | 2014 U16 Australian Junior Championships
Throughout the year it was Victoria who dominated the Australian Junior Championships – taking away the gold in both men’s and women’s basketball at the U20 and U18 events – however the U16′s Australian Junior Championships proved to be a different story. This week Geelong was the home of some of the most talented junior athletes that Australia has to offer, and they didn’t disappoint. Here’s a recap of all of this week’s action.

Personally don't see a great issue in the Vic uniforms, I get the idea but the bigV is about tradition and this is something we need to see.
There is high expectation on NSW as well these days, maybe both Vic & NSW should be seen to lead by example more on and off the court...?

Bad behaviour is never excusable, and the fact that Vic metro as a whole seem to think they are the only Vic team is just one area that needs to be addressed by Basketball Victoria as a group. Their total disregard for their country counterparts has been going on for years, it's not healthy rivalry its arrogance that they think they a so much better, not the fact that they have an enormous pool of talent to pick from, due purely to geographical facts that the metro population out numbers the country. You don't see this with other states, having been around the Vic metro/country program's for the past 14 yrs it's something that stands out. Add to this the over confidence that all metro teams have to the point of arrogance brought about by their undeniable success at nationals, I personally think those at the top need to instil what it really means to play at this level for EVERY state, every athlete coach support person has worked their backsides off to get to a nationals, to represent their state, it's a privilege not a right, and they should act so at all times win or loose. People come to watch these athletes of all ages play a game they love and are deemed to be good at, kids look up to these athletes and want to emulate them, so it's not just about winning it's about setting an example that others can follow.

Don't think the overall arrogance of Vic met in all age groups had one single thing to do with the refs lol. It's due to having very successful teams over many years in all ages both boys and girls. But their is never a reason for arrogance to be acceptable especially in junior sport, not by players , coaches or the big wigs behind the scenes. And this is what has been displayed especially the last few years from the Vic metro group. So hopefully the few losses they have had over the last couple of age groups and years girls in particular but now the boys, will make them realise that winning is not a right, it's a privilege and an honour, but more importantly it should be accepted with pride and humility.

Couldn't agree more with above poster, Vic metro in general have an arrogant attitude when it comes to nationals in all age groups. Yes they have been extremely successful, BUT, they are not invincible, and they are not the only Vic team, unfortunately the metro counterparts seem to think otherwise. Few years ago they won bronze not their usual gold, that team refused to wear their medals, that to me was the ultimate in arrogance and the coaches did nothing about it.

482865 , think the arrogant tag was aimed at Vic met in general not the kids

Week of upsets continues, NSW C W def VIC M to take the bronze and NZ M on the way to knock off NSW M M....Didn't someone say this would be the closest 16s in ages? Glad I didn't put any money on anyone.

a question for Anon poster re Vic Country boys. Who did you see as their injured best player ? I watched a couple of games and they were.an even group with no real standout player.

After 7 days of basketball and a number of close matchups, we’re finally down to our Grand Final games. NSW Country is looking to repeat as champions in the men’s division, they’ll be up against an undefeated VIC Metro squad. In women’s basketball, SA Metro did the seemingly impossible by defeating VIC Metro in their quarterfinal matchup, they’ll face Queensland South who got the best of NSW Country in yet another game that went down to the wire. Here’s a preview of both the men’s and women’s Championship games.
Grand Final Preview | 2014 U16 Australian Junior Championships

It does make a nice change actually to see other states have a go. Hopefully it will make Vic metro realise they need to lift their game and not be so complacent, and at times arrogant.

And what has that to do with anything here

when they love on the border they can potentially play either, and in fact Mildura girls have been known to play SA.

Boy's semi finals will be worth the watch if you can be there. Vic will have to be on their game against a very dangerous NZ team and the NSW derby game may come down to shooting percentage...
No clear favourties for mine, too close to call, maybe an upset and a NZ v NSW metro final?

Quarter finals are now won and done - medal round time!
Semifinals Preview | 2014 U16 Australian Junior Championships
The quarterfinals games of this tournament are over and we’re down to the final 4 teams in each division. The overwhelming trend remains the dominance of NSW and Victorian sides but will the likes of SA Metro, Queensland South, or even New Zealand, be able to fight their way into the grand final games? We bring you our preview of the semifinals matchups heading into the penultimate day of action.

re: 2014 U16 Australian Junior Championships
NSWC are reigning champs in the boys.
This is true, but for quite a few years before that, NSWC have failed to reach the medal rounds in either boys or girls.
As for Jasmine Simmons, I'm told she lives in NSW?

Ok, so I didn't read the draw well..... Let's say Vic M V NSW C in both boys band girls. Either way, huge return to form for NSW C teams, just like the old days when top 4 was the norm.

Ezi Magbegor (11.2 ppg, 12.2 rpg & 7 bpg seriously this kid is playing met4 in VJBL for Coburg and they are sitting 8th.....how has she gone unnoticed till now

Seriuosly you think vic met for the girls will not take this out like every other year lol.

I'm going to agree w 196 and tip NSW C V QLD S for the girls final...it's been hard to predict all week and there are some tired legs showing, so not too confident about anything!

After Day 3 there are only 3 undefeated teams remaining in the men’s division while the women’s division looks to have come down to a 2-horse race. In the men’s, NSW Metro and VIC Metro are in fine form while New Zealand has very sneakily remained undefeated. The women’s action has seen VIC Metro dominate, with SA Metro also posting 2 impressive wins during Day 3′s action.
