2014 FIBA U17 World Championships for Men
Thoughts now turn to the Nike Hoops Summit game I believe due in March 2015 between the USA and a World Team unless I am mistaken.
I expect some of the best players in this u17 world championships will make the 'Rest of World' team and if so I wonder if Isaac for Australia would be in the mix, or will he be too young?
That big for Greece would also be in the mix, plenty of decent players for the world coaches to select from, maybe even a couple of our boys who performed high in the tournament stats, like DJ and Tom Wilson could get a look in?
If this tournament isn't on, then of course the next thing in front of this age group would be under 19 worlds, but they would be in the bottom age group and I expect not many would be considered...

God let them get through college if they even get their before you start putting them into NBA teams, lol, you lot are hilarious, their teenage boys who need to finish their education before anything else.

Think it was replayed yesterday at 5

Wow, another world u17 silver and we took it right up to the best the USA could muster, congratulations to all the boys, the coaches and every person involved in the Aussie junior basketball program.
This has been a two year project, starting back in 2012 at FIBA Oceania and now after many hours of trials, games, training sessions and tactical coaching by all concerned we have again proven we are one of the best junior basketball nations on the planet!
Great effort, well done Goannas...
Further I would like to think we can also acknowledge those kids who worked with this team along their journey. They also played a part in the team's development, however could not be considered for selection, but they did their part by pushing these players to do their best, and they did their best, cheers boys...

^ well said

A fantastic effort by the Goannas in earning silver despite falling 92-99 in the final vs USA.
Some great performances and no shame is just falling short to the USA.
Recap now up on PnR:
Australia falls to USA to take silver; Humphries, Vasiljevic named to all-tournament team

Should have used his bench more throughout the game to keep his main players fresher to keep up with USA athetisism . But still a fantastic effort from a group of young men that so many on here doubted because of certain players being omitted. Even now you sing the praises of Humphries all week then flog him because he didn't have a huge game. Silver is an awesome result and they really didn't loose by much against a country that lives and breathes this game at a level Australia never will.

Yeah, meant in 2012!
Replay will eventually be available on livebasketball.tv
Australia is coming...
Go Aussies!

^...Agree think that boat will have sailed way too much cargo to go with McDowell and plenty of other talent here too

What time is the game on anyone have details please

Yeah baby, great effort and desire from the whole team, well done you make us all very proud!
Bring on the Yanks!

And no Simmons or McDowell in sight think they are doing an awesome job

What a win by the Goannas! 80-74 OT win and now play USA for gold!
Recap now up on PnR thanks to Olgun Uluc:
Australia defeats Spain in OT thriller, will face USA in Grand Final
After trailing by as many as 22 points, Australia has come back to get the thrilling 80-74 overtime win over Spain – setting up a Grand Final rematch against an undefeated USA squad.
Australia, led by Exum, took silver 4 years ago behind the USA.

Morning all, the brain wasn't functioning at its peak around 2.00am, sorry of course Serbs are in the other pool and we take on E'Spania porfavor...
Was watching Canada and Serbia, not a bad game, I think the semi final games will both be crackers and when you look at the four teams that made it through we do stand tall on the international stage!
Go Go Goannas!

Why would you stop what's been working? It's easy to get caught up in too much focus on the opposition!
The coaching staff have done a ripper job preparing these kids - the game plan looks very solid and gives them the space to create individually.
Starters:
Owies
Vasiljevic
Wilson
Noi
Humphries
Bench:
Clarke - more minutes, agree he has been good in patches
Froling - has been very good, would agree there. Look to see a bit more of him in the 4 with Humphries I would think.

Great win by the Goannas! Awesome achievement to get to the medal round in any WC.
Australia crushes Puerto Rico, advance to semifinals
Australia managed to blow-out Puerto Rico behind strong efforts from Dejan Vasiljevic and Isaac Humphries, a 76-52 win propelling them to the semifinals of the FIBA U17 World Championship.

They really need to cut down on the T/O.. Looks like their rebounding kept em in front easily. Don't think we can rely on that in the next couple games.

Great responses guys, but still leaves you scratching your head a little, you have to wonder if more minutes from some of these would infact produce better results, as said those who play the limited minutes continuously begin to doubt their ability and second guess themselves you see this at every level. Think coaches need to be more aware of this in all sports and either sit them down and explain reasons before hand or make an effort to rotate a bit better.

Don't take them if your not going to use them, I hate when coaches do this match after match, it's not only un fare on those who have worked hard to get there but what about any family that have made the effort to go to watch and in this case the huge expense involved. Surely it's not that hard to get them on the court. Understand it's worlds and players have roles, but no player has a role that requires them to sit on the bench for an entire tournament surely. If so why did they take them.

It's about match-ups I think, the others mentioned will get another chance should the coaches feel their match up will give the team some advantage, or if a minor injury, foul trouble or another variable come into play.
I have no obvious answer on why Gak has not played yet, hope he doesn't miss out, even if it is worlds he deserves his opportunity IMHO...

But f you look at the stats from un 18s this year with all those playing , White was a standout, that's why he got to AIS , so you would think they would at least give him a go, he did fine in the preseason tour. Hard to show what you can do for any player when you only get a couple of mins a game.

Would be nice to see so e of the bench getting more of a run, is jack white injured or something, the kids at the AIS, surely he deserves more than 2 mins in a game. And is GAK ever going to take the CRT, McMullen too.

So, the quarter finals and our boys are in with a decent chance playing a team they could match up well against. The Ri'cans have had a great tournament so far but I believe we have the weapons to take them down if we play with confidence.
I would love to hear from some of the parents there as to how the boys felt after last night, pumped I'm sure!?
Also on our side of the draw, France come up against Spain and hopefully we will take on the winner, this will be close and we shall see how good France really is after this game.
In the other side of the draw the USA showed no mercy to Japan and come up against China whom I think they will also dispatch easily.
That could bring forward a semi final between either Canada or Serbia, what a game this may prove to be. Once again it will give us an idea of how tough our pool was and how good Canada rally is, can't pick a winner though...

The Australia ‘Goannas’ will face Puerto Rico in their quarterfinal matchup at 12:45am (AEST).
Go Gonnas!

Great win by the Aussies!
Australia defeats Greece to advance to quarterfinals
Greece made a big push in the 4th quarter but Australia managed to hold on in the end, advancing to the quarter finals of the FIBA U17 World Championship with a 84-76 win.

Isaac Humphries was the man of the moment but his huge effort wasn't enough as Australia falls to Canada - a tough 85-74 loss.
Australia falls to Canada despite Humphries’ monster effort
Isaac Humphries had the performance of the tournament – 41 pts (16/23 FG, 9/11 FT), 19 rbs & 5 blks – with scouts and journalists alike raving about his performance. The huge showing wasn’t enough, however, as Canada got the best of the Aussie 'Goannas’.

If one player is putting up all the shots it stands to reason they will probably have a high scoring game. But humpries didn't get the ball and go coast to coast for every point. His team mates got him the ball so a bit of credit for the rest is due. And coach does not use his bench enough in my books. Saying that though he had a great game.

So many missed opportunities late in that quarter, seemed like we lost our way on offense again once Isaac had a rest. He will have to play out the entire final quarter for us to get near them I'm afraid...

Canada are too good to allow us to coast, we will have to adjust to what they are doing. Yes, our transition offense has slowed, we are not pushing the ball and stretching them like we did early on and our scoring has dropped off accordingly.
We had 7 assists in the first seven minutes I think, it was looking great and open for us, they have closed down the lanes and now we will see what the Aussies can bring to the court in the second half, come on go boys...

Team came to play in this one, a much tougher opponent I thought, France are a dangerous team and Canada will be just as hard to beat.
If we continue to improve and gain confidence the boys can make a decent run at a medal, but they must take care of Canada first!
We still tend to force the shot at times, which is a worry, but if that's what builds player confidence you don't want to take their aggression away...

Recap from Australia's 84-81 win over France is up on PnR:
Australia defeats France in nailbiter to start 2-0 | FIBA U17 World Championship
The Australian U17 Men’s squad were involved in yet another close game – this time defeating France 84-81 to remain the only undefeated team in their pool.

It's horrible and now massively delayed. Australia leading 21-18 at 1/4 time. Scoring load is spread.

YouTube broadcast is dodgy as by FIBA - but at least we are seeing some footage this time!

Thanks

Yes - that time is about right.
Let's hope the host nation organisers have got the FIBA YouTube channel up and working for the Aussies game vs France tonight.

What time is tonight's game live streaming?

Nice write up LC, agree with the assist rate, it has to double from that for us to improve for sure.
Seemed a bit confusing as to what actually happened near the end of regulation, notwithstanding the poor quality of the streaming, all of a sudden we had a point removed as the score was adjusted and scores were level at 77-77?
We still had two decent chances with 4.0 secs on the clock to put the game away, but at least we dominated OT to put the result in the books.
Look forward to watching tonight's game after the football, hope the streaming issue is resolved, Go Aussies... (Goannas)!

Recap of the game is now up on PnR:
Australia outlasts Japan in OT thriller to win opener
We will try and embed full game if it becomes available on FIBA's YouTube channel given the technical difficulties they experienced tonight.

This on Vasiljevic's college interest from early July:
Lehigh, Albany emerge as suitors for Dejan Vasiljevic
This also on Noi:
Kouat Noi beginning to receive NCAA interest, will explore prep school route

Aussies need to learn from this game as they let Japan back into it in the 3rd quarter.
In the end it was a 97-84 OT win over Japan. Vasiljevic w/ 23p & 11r, Humphries w/ 16p, 15r & 6b, & Noi with 17p, 9r & 3s.
