Need a blend of basketball and independent business & marketing EXPERTISE, with an expert independent chairman ... I stress, expert & independent chairman who has the ability to chair and control a board [not the sport or the league!], which is no easy task.
Starting point would be - once you sit around the board table you are there to further the league as a whole, not as a representative of a club, team or even a sector of the sport. You can - and should - draw on that knowledge but you are not there to represent any sectional interest.
Believe it or not, only when that sort of structure is in place and operating will the league and its clubs be truly furthering all their interests because a board that is able to make good longer-term, strategic governance [not management!] decisions is essential to the survival and development of the league, which is the starting point for furthering the 'interests' of all parties/stakeholders, including the financiers supporting clubs like Perth and the Hawks.
