VJBL U/18 VC Grading Phase

Well done to all teams, welcome to VC U18 Men Frankston, Oakleigh, Camberwell and Coburg.

Just as I predicted :)

Anon Frankston are bigger than Coburg. 2 x 6ft7 centres and plenty around the 6ft2 mark playing as guards. Not quite the Melb Geelong height but probably weigh 20kgs more. They played a close one to beat casey at Aust day so it is a toss of the coin job.

Oh, shite I didn't even check, just went on face value from the above anon post, thanks @Melbourne Boy.

Still I think Coburg can get over Casey in that one but all games look very close. The Camberwell v Ballarat game now takes on a different feel for me, I can't call Ballarat to win with any conviction, it will depend on how they shoot it...

I will go with Coburg and Camberwell, but very close results!

Warrandyte, Bulleen, Werribee and Dandenong all deserve their spot into VC, they were clearly at this level...

Of the four remaining spots;

Frankston must be a huge chance against Casey.
Coburg should be too big for Camberwell, but this will be tight.
Oakleigh in their day should account for Kilsyth.
Ballarat will have to pull out all stops to get over Altona in what could be another tight game.

My tips are Frankston, Coburg, Oakleigh and Ballarat, but not with great confidence.

Agree^, although both teams had players out, I recall Geelong only got over them by about 5 points to get through in cross-overs. Could easily have gone the other way...

Frankston have taken dandy and hawthorn to within 5. Melb within 14 and beat vc qualified side Knox by 23. You are not giving Warrandyte enough credit, I was at the game and they must have hit 12 pure 3s. Warrandyte drew with diamond valley earlier in grading. Frankston is a team of footballers that run hot and cold but can be dangerous as Ballarat found out. Will be a tough gig to get to VC from where they are but they have come up against some bloody good teams.

Results of VC qualifying under 18Men round 1 are in:

Coburg went down to Bulleen 57-59
Ballarat also down in a close on to Dandenong 49-52

Altona defeat Melbourne2 45-34
Casey beat McKinnon 54-45

Frankston lose to Warrandyte 39-56
Mornigton get hammered by Kilsyth 40-67

Blackburn down to Camberwell 46-52
Werribee smacked Oakleigh 62-36

Was anyone at any of these games who can share their thoughts on results so far?

Looks as though Oakleigh, Frankston & Melbourne2 are perhaps not at VC level, this year...

Years ago

Won't happen if they play to their potential, but having watched a talented team lose six in a row and miss out a couple of years ago, it can happen...

Those in Junior League 1 will not be happy if it does though!!

Years ago

I am reasonably sure that group of Oakleigh players have always been on lower fringes of Championship/high Div. 1. A low pre grading ranking surprises me

Poaching or people realising that their clubs aren't offering them much of a service so they decide to go to a different club? There is a difference!

Years ago

Hawthorn go thru on %, also into VC are Melbourne, Knox, Diamond Valley, Eltham and Sandringham.

Next Friday there will be some great cross-over games, does anyone know if they will all be at MSAC?

Gabe Hadley has moved to now live in Melbourne, and given Diamond Valley is within Metro Melbourne that makes him able to play for Vic Metro.

Sorry, meant to comment that Dandenong stayed close, but obviously couldn't catch them... Still, lots of points in that game compared with the average for week one.

Years ago

That's some outside shooting right there, yet DV got over them...
