Jordan's Mcrae's tweet after Adelaide game

the nbl is in trouble agen, being sued for copyright
the reason for the legal action is the impersonation by nbl refs being too close to the three blind mice

Years ago

Ah, all the Adelaide supporters suddenly don't like it when the Shoe of Home Town Bias Accusations is on the other foot!

You can't just add the fouls up and say ooooohhhhh advantage Club X.

It's just a ridiculously childish and simple way to look at stats and attempt to make a judgement on bias.

Years ago

I agree with Harry, just because a foul count isn't equal doesn't mean it's favouring a side.

Not making any excuses for the refs though...

Years ago

I have never understood why the foul count is supposed to relatively equal.

When I was young, it seemed that the NBL was so wonderful, a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.

Yeah, I know!

@Hendo8888 "Sixers get a very cushy ride with the refs when we're home."

At the end of R9, the average foul count was 18.6 to 20.4 (H:A)

On the home courts.
NZB: 20.7 v 20.1 (+0.6)
MEL: 21.0 v 20.6 (+0.4)
TVL: 20.8 v 20.7 (+0.1)
WOL: 16.2 v 18.5 (-2.3)
CNS: 17.2 v 19.7 (-2.5)
PER: 15.0 v 17.7 (-2.7)
ADL: 21.2 v 24.3 (-3.2)
SYD: 16.3 v 21.7 (-5.3)

If you looked at that alone, Sydney gets the dream run and NZ get stiffed. However, teams plays basically the same style and so if the refs were consistent would expect the foul count at home to be similar to the foul count away. Just looking at the home court fouls doesn't take into consideration the team's play style. Looking at the home vs away foul count is a much fairer way to consider any "home court advantage". Teams should attract fouls at the same rate regardless of the court.

PER: 15.0 vs 19.8 (+4.8)
CNS: 17.2 vs 20.3 (+3.1)
NZB: 20.7 vs 23.3 (+2.6)
WOL: 16.2 vs 18.4 (+2.2)
SYD: 16.3 vs 18.4 (+2.1)
ADL: 21.2 vs 21.7 (+0.5)
MEL: 21.0 vs 20.6 (-0.4)
TVL: 20.8 vs 20.3 (-0.5)

Based on that, the true "home court advantage" ranges from Townsville getting stiffed -0.5 fouls per game and Perth get an advantage of 4.8 fpg. Knowing that the away teams gets an average 1.8 fpg, the team with the most home court advantage is Perth with 3 fpg. They are also the team with the lowest average fpg on their home court (15.0 fpg)

Tomlinson, Kickert & McRae should all be fined for those tweets - absolutely ridiculous. Webster got fined last year by the Breakers

Home cooking? Must have been at a different game!

The officials missed as many as they called, and called a good few that were barely there if at all, but it was good to see them calling some of the holding, shirt-tugging etc that passed for Melbourne defence.

My issue was the amount of time Worthington, in particular, with D-Mac not far behind and Walker also weighing in, spent talking one-on-one with Melbourne referee during breaks in the game. Never one of the others - just the 'main man' from their home town. Maybe he was the referee and the others were mere umpires.

I'd like to think those attempts to influence the officiating resulted in extra reluctance to favour Melbourne in any 50:50 call, though saw no evidence of that, either way.

Could explain some of the petulance though, if the usual tactics failed to influence the officiating outcomes.

And was it just me, or have the officials woken up and changed the mechanics so there is not a referee/umpire camped adjacent to the team benches where the coach can double as a referee assessor - and attempt to influence the calling?

Very unprofessional

LV you are right.

The three second call has just been forgotten about.

Melb shot way too many threes last night - 30 odd?

I do wonder whether the love for the three ball is a result of the poor reffing and the fact that players are getting discouraged from driving to the rack because of the probability of getting absolutely hacked and not getting the foul.

Melb lost the game last night no doubt but i do wonder whether there is a correlation there.

Some of you may be aware that former Adelaide Crow Trent Ormond Allen is planning on running from Roxby Downs to Adelaide to raise money for Cancer.

If anyone is interested in donating money they can through his website www.cancersa.org.au/rangaruns

He is hoping to raise $5000 and is a fair bit short.

Its a big effort and he is hoping to make it financially worthwhile for the cancer foundation.
