Seems like a Mexican standoff.

Why wouldn't NBL guarantee a spot to an existing club?

If they can stand on their own two feet financially then I don't see why the NBL would prefer to have them out of the league. What would be the thinking behind that?
Provided the money is right, surely an expanded league is better?
