Should The MVP Voting Be Done Like The NBA?
yeah lets make it the same...... someone will probably for for Melo..... someone always votes for Melo...

PeterJohn what I am getting at is that we don't want a team MVP we want a LEAGUE MVP. This means the most valuable player to the league as a whole. This doesn't just mean he puts up the best stats. I think that the NBA has it more "right" than the NBL as it is not necessarily the best player that wins but the one who is the most valuable to the league. What are the current voting criteria? Coach picks the top 3 players for contribution in 1 game? That basically would end up with stat stuffers getting more votes than guys who truly influence winning and bring value to the league.

This sounds like a conspiracy theory but I reckon if an NBL import has an mvp-type year they'd be less likely to win it over an Australian with similar stats as they'd be more likely to get a great European gig with an NBL MVP under their belt.

The problem with the NBL voting system is that the best player on the worst team can win the MVP and is more likely to than the best player on the best team due to the points getting spread more. If there was some extra weighting for win percentage or similar that might help.
I think the NBL also needs to hype the MVP more throughout the season. The NBA has a ROTY and MVP leader board every week (not actual leading vote getters but the opinion of a knowledgeable beat writer) that gets the conversation going. And have a proper structure to the awards!
