Like there aren't thousands out there with same mental health problems. Sounds like you need help yourself continuing with constant gibes. Let it go for your own mental health! Really can't see what you're trying to achieve, you've had your say, now go away.

Years ago

Did Martin take your spot in a team once BB, you seem to like kicking him when he’s down, he has mental health problems and isn’t dealing with it well by all signs. You ripping in a hoops forum isn’t helping him.
Rucker was financial problems and not mental health. Leave it be.

His issues are apparent to anyone who's looked at his Insta. What good can come out of documenting and discussing it though?

We don’t need to no a person shit who obviously has problem, it’s like throwing petrol on the fire.

Close thread.

I love NBL life pieces. Keep us updated.

This case would be beyond the sort of system the NBLPA (or whatever it's called now) might be expected to introduce. Maybe they could recognise and refer him to stronger support services, but I dare say his family and friends would have already done that.

I deleted the previous topic this week because it's really unlikely to help as a thread attracting full attention. Too close to gossip and gawking. Anyone in a position to help him is not here.

I imagine he's not provably dangerous enough to coerce into full-time support, but not self-aware enough to decide for himself. Anyone helping informally would be taking on a lot of risk themselves with no guarantee of success.

This is something that the league needs, but to put it into perspective, something that even the AFL has only recently (10-15 years) started to take seriously and get right.

You'd like to see Jacob and the PA work with the league to put some measures in place to work with these guys while they're still in the league.

Not sure what they can do for guys who are already out of the system though. Hope Luke finds the help he needs.

Years ago

I really want Luke to recover and get back to some semblance of a balanced lifestyle. The guy was servicable in the NBL at least as a 6th Man, it is sad to see he couldn't use his basketball career as a launchpad to something better or be a stabilising influence.

There's only so much one human can do if someone flat out refuses to take steps towards a better life.

Not necessarily but if he's keeping out of trouble he will likely remain under the radar but if he does something silly again there are processes in place to keep people off the streets who are a danger to themselves or the public in general.

I remember the incident of him throwing rocks through the windows of the Lindt Cafe that had the terrorism incident if that wasn't a cry for help I don't know what is.
Years ago

That's very sad to read. I remember him making the news for breaking that policeman's jaw but he seems in dire straits now. As he's not taking his meds a friend or family member needs to take him to the hospital where they will force him to take them and likely keep him under supervision for awhile.

He has a NZ father and will no doubt be welcome to play in the NZNBL after serving what ever punishment is deemed appropriate

ah anon, unable to put an identity to a post nor actually read and process another persons opinion on the Internet let alone contribute anything worth while

Everyone must all be lined up for saint hood on this site. There are tons of people amongst us living with non diagnosed mental illnesses and then there are people who just made some very poor decisions when they were at rock bottom. Neither deserves to be cast aside or treated like shit for one mistake, if he was a repeat offender you could cast your judgement but by all accounts he has lived the past 34 years without issue and deserves to be treated as such.

Wow. 70 km in a 50 zone. If it wasn't for this one maybe he would have made bail!

Years ago

it would be easier to understand if it was a spur of the moment act, but it wasnt. He went there with bags of rocks on what looked like a trolley.

When caught he was allegedly in possesion of another bag of rocks WTF!!

I think a lot of people on here would of had their own demons in the past and done things that are totally stupid. Not condoning what he did but it seems totally out of character for him. Let's hope he gets the help he needs and can put this in the past.

On a lighter note, suprised no one here has made a joke bout him learning thug tactics from his time in Perth lol

Years ago

Hopefully the dude can get his life back on track sooner rather than later.
I was about to post lucky it was just some broken windows at a cafe until I read that he had resisted arrest and assaulted one of the arresting police officers possibly breaking his jaw.
The guy must have some pretty major shit going on in his life to just flip the switch and go off the deep end like this. Hopefully he gets the help he needs and the police officer's jaw heals up quickly and he can get back to work without any lasting effects.

The NZNBL Southland Sharks former and current players don't have a very good track record off the court do they?

THankyou for the Clarification. Living in Perth as I do, we dont experience the 'live in Perth, play in Adelaide' effect too much

Beast Mode?

I just dont see how personal issues could make someone hop in a a car or plane and go down to Sydney and target out the Lindt cafe of all places.
