He did, but he was also 18 going on 19. Reality is that he's not going to be able to score around the basket without more muscle. It will help his explosiveness too - he doesn't elevate nearly enough when he does go to the basket, just sort of floats up.
He either needs to become a Shaun Livingston type of player who can take guys down low and knock down the midrange jumper, or bulk up.
Not surprised re: the pick and roll comment. He wasn't aggressive in taking it to the basket, nor was he a strong shooter off the dribble. If you're the defender you just go under the screen and stop the pass.
I actually think the year off could be a blessing in disguise. Rehab, build up body strength, work on his shot, and then hit the court in 2016.
