Lauren Jackson retires from international competition

Arguably Australia's greatest ever basketballer, period!

Years ago

Yeah I just hope those injuries don't dictate her life now she has retired.

I know we shouldn't judge a player just on stats but it's simply too hard to describe how integral she has been to women's basketball.

You're the fair dinkum Greatest of All time and I hope that basketball doesn't lose you or your wealth of knowledge moving forward.

Thank you

Thanks for all you did for your country, LJ. You performed on big stage after big stage, and gave a generation someone to aspire to.

Good luck with overcoming your injuries.

she probably should have retired a while ago if we are all truthful, her body just hasnt been able to take the pounding for a while, but she has done more for women in basketball than most, and I hope she can give some of that knowledge and passion shes had on the court to improving the game from off the crt still, it would be such a shame to loose someone like LJ from basketball altogether .

Lauren Jackson PER in WNBA in 2006: 34.91. In 2007: 35.04. No one in NBA history has ever broken 32 for a season. @laurenej15 was THAT good.

Pelton did a great job here;

Equal or better than any Australian ever, all time great world wide.

Was at the gold medal matchin Sydney, I left thinking if rest of the team had followed her into the trenches we would've had gold, she was outstanding and all so young

Good luck with where ever life takes you, you've earned it.

What an absolute beast

Years ago

Arguably the greatest womens player of all time.

Years ago

Watched her at her first Opal training squad workouts, was clear full of potential.

She has gone on to have a career that is certainly unlikely ever to be matched, and it was a result of a well respected and fairly equal balance of genetics, talent, highly competitive spirit and a lot of hard work.

Height is a lucky start , but there are plenty of 7'+ US male college players that no one has ever heard of again.

LJ certainly worked hard and deserved her successes, paychecks and awards.

Wade ponders this question for a while then looks God in the eye, and says, "I believe in loyalty, and in staying true to family and friends. I believe in teamwork. I always play for the benefit of my squad." God sees the diligence and empathy in Wade and offers him a seat to his right.

God then turns to LeBron James and says, "What do you believe?"

LeBron says, "I believe passion, discipline, courage and honor are the fundamentals of life. I have been blessed, but win or lose, I've always tried to be a true sportsman both on and off the court." God sees right through LeBron's rhetoric and sends him straight to Hell.

Finally, God turns to Kobe Bryant. "And you, Kobe, what do you believe?"
Kobe replies, "I believe you're in my God damn seat."
