$22M boost to basketball in Victoria-SA zero
"At the national level, Federal Government a few years ago decided to focus on elite level and isn't interested in funding local facilities."
They just put $5mill into Frankston's stadium, it just takes an association and council willing to do the work to get cash from an appropriate grants scheme.

BSA doing the best it can?
I suppose if you settle for nothing, expect nothing, applaud for doing nothing THEN it's nothing you'll receive.
I'm sorry but 11 years of doing nothing is NOT good enough.

The last post on this is absolutely correct. The AFL and cricket are the darlings of politicians. No money to go around. BSA doing the best it can. Local Councils basically sit on their hands waiting for the Govt to cough up first.
Their idea of sport and rec are walking paths and extra play ground equipment.

Anon - SA Government built a half a billion dollar footy/cricket stadium, refurbished Hindmarsh Stadium and put $50 million into a new swimming stadium in the past 10 years. Not many scraps left after that.
Oh, and SA Government reduced its grants for community and other sports a few years ago and haven't re-instated it. High performance program funding was reduced a couple of years ago.
Basically, the current SA Government has a shedload of money being swallowed by large infrastructure programs and budget overruns in health. They don't have the revenue to put into other portfolio areas. If there aren't marginal seats to be won, it won't be funded.
At the national level, Federal Government a few years ago decided to focus on elite level and isn't interested in funding local facilities. At the same time, they told the funded sports that levels of future funding depended on medals at World and Olympic Championships.
It's possible the Federal money will shift back towards community based (participation) programs after the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018. That happened after the Sydney Olympics.

Just like in Victoria and other states I am sure most government and council dollars goes to football. How much is dedicated to basketball depends on how much lobbying can be done to pick up those scraps left behind.

zero lobbying = zero funding
if there has been lobbying they should have been relieved of their duties 11 years ago.
I understand BSA is somewhat of a poisoned chalice within Government circles due to BASA debacle but NO results in that time is a disgrace.

I wonder how much funding indoor sporting venues have received from the SA state government in the past 5 years?
Any at all?

It's State money just announced in the Victorian State Budget. Also, it's general rather than specific to basketball facilities, although basketball, netball and volleyball are mentioned as examples of sports that will benefit.
The intent of the funding is to increase indoor stadium capacity generally. An additional $8 million is directed to a regional program called "Country Football Netball Program".
The relevant minister's press release is here - http://www.premier.vic.gov.au/big-boost-for-grassroots-sport/

Alexandria is close to starting their expansion. Finally. It's only taken 3 decades or so.

Don't even get me started on NSW. Zero decent basketball venues within a stone's throw of the CBD, and they knock down the one that they did have (although it was too big), and replace it with a theatre, giving us 3 theatres within 15 minutes walk of each other, and 0 mid-sized all-purpose sporting venues.

$22m doesn't go far in this day and age.Probably two new stadium complexes or 5 small extensions.

Let's not forget the Geelong one has 0 funding at this stage, they are looking for funds. A bit like North Adelaide are doing with their proposals at Northgate.
No disputing the ineptitude of BSA though, good to see North Adelaide are at least trying to rise above the ineptitude

Oh and let's not forget this.

State Govt funding, coupled with council funding and that from an Association = more courts.

The funding promise is from the Victorian State government not Basketball Victoria and $22m across the state won't achieve very much either.
