The French basketball team made the biggest upset in the opening of the World Basketball Championship in Turkey. France beat the defending champion Spain 72-66 in their game to create jolt among the participants in the World Basketball Championship. Despite missing some of its top players lead by San Antonio Spurs point-guard Tony Parker and Chicago Bulls rising power-forward Joachim Noah, France was still able to collectively work together to defeat the favored Spaniards. Unheralded forward Mickael Gelabale top scored for France as he scored 16 points and had an almost free throws to come up with a morale boosting victory against Spain.

Spain had a hot-start in the game building a 12-point lead in the second quarter but such a lead did not last long as the French team used a a 9-0 run to tie the game at 25 and it was close the rest of the way.

Spain expressed sadness over their loss but vowed to work harder to win their incoming games in the World Basketball Championship. The experts said the upset loss of Spain in a way could be attributed to the fact that its biggest star Paul Gasol, the NBA superstar center of the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers has decided not to play in the tournament. The new NBA season nears its opening so make it a habit to watch the professional basketball games live by getting cheap NBA tickets.
