Loughton played exactly has he should have for the last 2 years. Minimal minutes, not looking to shoot first. If he plays like that the rest of the season with limited minutes he will be valuable to the team.
But if he resorts to jacking up ridiculous high volume shots they can kiss playoffs goodbye.

Leicester city, Cleveland Cavs, western bulldogs, Cronulla Sharks, Chicago Cubs, Donald Trump... Cairns Taipans hardly sounds crazy. In fact it sounds normal.

Cairns then daylight FO SURE.
I'll take my $276 for $2 of bets when they play either Sydney or Perth in the GF. Thanking you kindly.
And I'll take the $ on the 10 win target, thanks.

The usf on Heiur was a joke.
Can all the Loughton baggers return to apologise?

I don't want to hear anymore positive talk about that jerk Wurvo
kthx

We're the worst team in the league without Wortho imo

Still too many fourth-quarter breakdowns for my liking but we just kept hitting shots. Too good. As one commentator said, NZB missed a point guard in the fourth.
Can we start calling Worthington 'Vino'?

No point guard hurt NZ like I thought it would

If Gliddon and Wortho play anything like that on a consistent basis they won't drop too many!
Those two were awesome, and Cairns fourth quarter D tremendous, NZ weren't able to get Abercrombie a good look for most of the period, and he is their fourth quarter guy these days.

Lets not forget they went down by a bee's dick against Perth and Sydney.....on the road.

I'm diehard Cats fan, but a Snakes title win this year would be pretty cool

Re: the double foul, I think the ref signalled it correctly initially, but the 'X' just wasn't super pronounced. Then again, I watched it on a small screen.
SNAKES DOE!

Cairns then daylight amirite

I love how kiwis appreciate a good game even if their team loses. Both on this forum and the commentators.
Much better vibes than the SYD/MEL/PER/ADL hate that's normally floating around.

That was great. Gliddon kicked our butt from outside and we didn't have an answer. Wortho turned back the clock as well. And that fourth quarter by Cairns.. Love these teams that no-one talks about making a statement.

Cairns 1-10 BAM

Wilson, I think it was a double foul, the ref just got his signal mixed up initially.
Great game so far, quality watching Pledger and Jawai go at it, and love the combos between Vukona and Penney/Abercrombie as well as Wortho and Gliddon.

'Just wish they would learn to pronounce Heuir, dammit!
You mean he's not Greg Hire's brother?

Didn't they just call an unsportsmanlike foul but only give possession? Or was it downgraded to just a 'normal' foul?

"Hope everyone took the $3 on offer for Caynnes"
Always...
:)
Just wish they would learn to pronounce Heuir, dammit!

Haha penney. Refs are terrible. it's a shame the rest of the league (players, marketing, tv) has stepped up but the refs are still far behind.

Jawaii looks like he's cut a lot of bodyfat down
Good to see

This is shaping up to be a cracker of a game. Both teams have been finding some good form and both teams having their share of injury problems.
I'm going to go away from the trend and tip the away team - Cairns in a thriller.
How good is the NBL this year, so many great games already this season.

and the bonus word today is 'acetabulum' - contrats Freethrows you win!
Al can still produce, adds to the rotation so we can hopefully keep some juice and Nate and Wortho's tanks.

Anonymous #607156, that's a complete crock of shit. Are you a medical expert? Bruising of the bone can happen instantaneously, and the boney tissue surrounding the acetabulum is susceptible to this type of injury with a direct blow, like falling on your hip onto a hardwood floor.

Yeah I agree, don't think Alex need to focus on scoring too much if Jawai's playing with the mindset he had vs. the Kings. Can always fit him in if he's tough with D and rebounds.

Poor Alex. He's much maligned, and everyone seems to expect the 'Pans to lose if he's playing. The reality is that our rotation of bigs has worked really well with Wortho, Egg and Nate. Even the return of (also much maligned) Stevie Weigh hasn't appeared to do too much damage to the front court efforts (and yes, Virginia, he has been playing as a 4, quite a bit.)
Hopefully Alex can come back in and make a positive impact. He needs to play good D and rebound, not focus too much on trying to score.

Haha that too

Guaranteed lols?

Loughton in = guaranteed L

Forgot Loughton was out.

From the Taipans' website:
"The CQUniversity Cairns Taipans have received a bittersweet boost for their double-header this weekend, with Alex Loughton ready to make an early return from injury, while Travis Trice will miss yet another round."
... and ...
"An orthopaedic specialist confirmed that in addition to muscle tightness there is substantial bruising to the bone, and while timelines are hard to predict, can take weeks to improve.
An MRI scan after the incident did not expose a need for surgery, with a follow up scan this week providing the same read.
Trice will continue his rehabilitation in Cairns and will not suit up this weekend, and unfortunately remains doubtful for next Friday’s game in Melbourne."

Trice will not play tomorrow, however he may be available against the Bullets for the home game on Sunday.
This is the story from the ever-reliable Cairns Post, so it must be true. It is actually the same as what I have heard from people inside the Taipans organisation. Trice has "some ligament damage but no structural impairment", according to the MRI he had recently on his hip.
It's possible he's not playing in New Zealand to avoid any swelling the flight may cause to his hip, and that he might be all right to play on Sunday if there is no further aggravation of the hip before then.
I don't like to see players come back before they are quite right, and I think it would be better for the team to wait until nex tweek to bring him back if he's not okay for tomorrow's game.

The Bullets don't have much of a chance in this one

Love Cairns as a team, they could get Breakers here before Stockton arrives. $2.60 on offer is pretty juicy.
When is Trice due back?

I'm with GordonG. Bullets without a chance; the Taipans will win this one.
Call it Battle of the Point Guards Pt 1, with Woodside, Ili and Trice all out. BOTPG part 2 is on Sunday, with the rudderless Wildcats home to the pilot-less Breakers.
Who would be an NBL point guard this year???
