Brisbane @ Adelaide 19/11
It's his personal account. What's unprofessional is a coach reacting at all let alone calling them bitches. Joey has such a cool head when poked.

Banter in his downtime is surely a non-issue. Probably creates a bit more interest in the next game too.

Yeah everyone looks bad in that exchange. Kickert for whinging about being pulled up for doing something thuggish and Joey for not being the adult by engaging in it with players on social media.
Send both of them to the naughty corner for timeout.

He was having some banter nothing too sinister in that. What's unprofessional is a pro coach getting caught up in it.

I think Kickert needs to remove the word "professional" from his Twitter bio.

Joey Wright is an idiot. Why bait a team you have no chance of beating because YOU don't coach defence. Embarrassing and sad.

AKA,
Where did you find this info? Nothing on the NBL's site or their twitter or the Bullets twitter for that matter.

That's fair didn't warrant a suspension but also deserved more than a $250 or $500 slap on the wrist fine. At least a $1000 he'll think twice before doing it again.

Check kickerts twitter. I'd say the word is well and truly put on how pathetic the 36ers are getting.

I would too it doesn't warrant a suspension but at the same time you can't have guys head butting other guys even if only in a 'get out of my face' kinda way. It's just not a good look and deserved an ejection (but the refs didn't seem to pick up on it) and a bit more than a token fine.
The act of head butting even just a bit of a tap needs to be discouraged in every way as even though Kickert's not a thug it's the thugs way of dealing with things in sport that aren't going their way.

I could possibly see a fine for Kickert but not a suspension! Drmic didn't even come off the court so I doubt there is a 'sizeable red lump'. I imagine Joey told him to say that to hopefully get Kicks rubbed out for this coming weeks game. Smart gamesmanship by Joey but terrible career advice for young Drmic. No-one likes a snitch like that.
I imagine Joey is getting desperate, and rightfully so given his teams performance to date.
Let's see what the NBL does but after Maric got away with putting Wortho in a headlock, I'd be very surprised with anything more than a fine for Daniel.

I thought the refs would have checked that headbutt on the video, but they didn't seem to want a bar of it. Can't believe not one of 3 refs saw it.

Thanks Zodiac.
Just watched it .. ~ 6:56 mark of the 2nd quarter. It looked to be very light contact so I'm surprised that "Drmic was sporting a sizeable red lump on his forehead" after it, but a head butt is still a potentially serious indiscretion even if it's not one intended to do any damage.

Luuuc,
At one point in the game Drmic got up in Kickert's face after Kickert had a foul called on him and he head butted Drmic. It didn't look too hard like a tap but was more than a nudge with the head.
I was surprised he wasn't ejected and probably should get a serious fine for it. Of course we play the Bullets again on Thursday night which might have something to do with Joey wanting him to be suspended.

Hendo8888 I think if the ball was given to Ferguson isolated on either the perimeter or the post, he could generate his own shot and get right to the rim. But he never gets that opportunity. They have to give him space and confidence. How would we know with Drmic as he never gets a chance either. I'm sure they would of got closer than Teys did with those open looks he had.
I think we should be starting Randle, Sobey, Drmic, Johnson, Jacobsen as our five until Creek comes back slotting in for Drmic. The Sixers do too much of the modern rotation crap meaning players are all split between 25-15 mins each. Stuff that. I want to see the starters playing 30+ mins each with slight rotations depending on fouls, etc, with 1 player subbed at a time and get some cohesion going. Problem is we don't have experienced enough backup guard off the bench and Drmic, Ferguson, Deng are similar so precious mins get split between them. You could see that even though getting old, Petrie just had so much experience, he was doing with the young defenders as he wanted.
How can semi pro players like Gaze, Maher, etc, play every minute of a game and the coaches today are subbing off full time pro's to play 20-30 mins. The best players in the team need to be on the court as much as possible playing 30+ mins.
If you watch AFL, even with all the rotations they do the good players are still playing 90% of gametime spending 1-2 mins off maximum at a time.
+/- are not very reliable statistic, as Deng was rated -5 yet he committed crappy turnover just before 1/2 time and 3 turnovers in a minute that helped blow the game wide open. Petrie only rated +4 yet he completely killed us.

I want Joey banned.

I only watched a few bits and pieces of this game, so this is the first I've heard of this:
Wright wants Kickert banned
"Adelaide 36ers coach Joey Wright has questioned the NBL's credibility before a likely tribunal appearance for Brisbane forward Daniel Kickert for his head clash with Sixer Anthony Drmic."
https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/33265645/wright-wants-kickert-banned/#page1
What's the go?

No way you bench Sobey. He's the only positive to come from this season (other than Hodgson the last couple weeks). But we definitely should bench Teys. For the season. Give him the Deng treatment.
As much as we gave him crap all last year, Gibson gave us someone who can create for others. Randle is a fantastic offensive player, but he really doesn't create much at all. We have some shooters on our team, but no one to pass them the ball.
Drmic and Ferguson seem practically incapable of actually creating a shot for themself, so they need someone to get them the ball. For all of Ferguson's assumed potential, all I've seen him really do is catch and shoot 3 pointers. He basically doesn't use his athleticism at all, and I've never seen him beat someone off the dribble, or even drive at all tbh.
Deng's a bit of a black hole, but at least he does something when he gets the ball.
We desperately need Creek. He helps bring a lot of the pieces together. He's not a solution, but he'd definitely help a lot.

Ferguson didn't take a single shot last night. In 20 mins of court time.
He had the dreaded 3 turnovers, 1 foul, 0 positive stats.
Funnily enough, he was only -2 in that 20 mins. So we were -16 in the other 20 mins he was off. So, even though he didn't do a single positive thing, he somehow made us significantly better than not having him on.

Under Joey, Adelaide's defence has been pretty much woeful for too long. Why can't they fix it? Game after game teams just stroll in and casually pass the ball around to open shooters. IF they continue to get burnt from it, why haven't they learnt anything from it? It almost looked as if Brisbane were scoring in slow motion it was that simple to improvise on the pressure and score. Joey, you can't just keep leaving shooters open !
I accept that Adelaide have a few inexperienced players at the pro level ( Not that young ) but we need to see better than this still.
I've said it before and i'll say it again, Drmic and Ferguson are getting NOTHING run for them at the offensive end. There's absolutely no spacing, movement or ball movement. I'm not using stats but i know Ferguson had no 3 point attempts and i can't remember any from Drmic. It's just ugly and mindless. Any other team would guarantee they at least get shots up.
In saying that, Joey is identifying some strengths to keep the score board ticking but they can be so much better. It's all futile though if you can't keep your opposition to under 120 points every time.
I don't like the balance of the starting 5 and when Creek returns i want to see this:
Randle-Drmic-Ferguson-Creek-Jacobson
I like Sobey and he deserves credit but i think he's more suited to be a scoring weapon off the bench. He's improvement will help settle that second unit when Randle sits. Johnson is just stuck between a four & five man again so i want to see him come off the bench for now and let Jacobsen patrol the paint with more space. My thinking is just why not with this proposal? Run and gun properly. If Drmic is longer term, throw him in the deep end.

IMO Adelaide's biggest issues are they don't defend with intent consistently and don't get enough boards when the oppo does miss. It's amazing they can score so many points when their D and rebounding isn't generating it - they need Creek back big time.
Players not understanding where to be offensively can't be too much of an issue when they're still 1st in scoring, 2nd in FG%, 2nd in FTA and 3rd in OR.
It's no surprise the top four at the moment are the four best rebounding teams, and running teams like Adelaide and Illawarra are struggling when they're the two worst teams on the d-boards.

Joey Wright doesn't have a system to coach to, which is why his young players, like Deng, Drmic and Ferguson are struggling so much. They have no idea where they should be, or where they should be going, on the basketball court.
When the 36ers finally realise this, they'll understand they either have to put a veteran team on the floor, or get an Xs and Os coach to take over a youthful roster with a lot of potential.

I could understand Teys starting at start of season, but every game now when starting 5 comes out and he's in I cringe. I understand Creeks injury and depth. Last season everyone was calling out Sobey errors and forcing everything, but it was the minutes and role he was playing. Coming on/off bench doesn't allow player to settle, get anything going. This year Drmic is stuck in that role. Playing in bursts, on/off bench.
Also could not understand not starting Johnson. Okay he's missed couple of games, but starting with both Hodgson & Jacobsen when Johnson is playing. He was our best player by far last night and only played 1/2 a game. LOL. When sixers got the game back to approx 43-41 with 2min left in the half, Joey subs Johnson out for Deng. What for? A rest? He was getting a rest in 2mins. And the worst part was when 2nd half started he was still sitting on the bench. Why would you sit the one guy playing well on the bench?

The NBA doesn't have pressing defence, except late in games, because the players don't want to do it. With an 82-game season and the reality it could force them into bad plays, can you really blame the players for not being that keen?

Also
1) very regular airplane travel ain't the best for recovery.
2) A FCP usually looks to double team the dribbler and pick off the pressured outlet pass. In the NBA 1) many of the ball carrying guards can avoid or bust a double team 2)many of the ball carrying guards have exceptional court vision and will pick the necessarily early defensive commitment to the intercept and then pass to the second option, which really %^^%'s a FCP.

Re - "I don't want to feed the tempo, but have you ever stopped to wonder why the NBA is the only competition in the world where full court press isn't used?"
1)NBA has a 70+ minor game schedule, with some 3 game weeks, players don't have the stamina to do it across the whole season. THEN you may hit the playoffs with a game every second night for 3 x 7 games series in a row.
2)NBA players want to have Loooong careers, high energy frenetic TEAM defense for 50% of each game does not make that likely, so players do not want to play for coaches who will use them like that. College players have little choice and far shorter seasons.
3) its a defense that gambles on offensive players not making smart moves under pressure. Most successful NBA players have very good IQs, hell even most of the bench players. Not difficult for a reasonable NBA team to put 3-4 very smart players on the floor who would carve up a full court press without having to work too hard physically.

- 36ers still can't defend the perimeter, I know i've been banging on about it all season but you just can't leave players wide wide open like that. It might be their tactic to disrupt early, but they're not doing a good enough job so it doesn't work.
- 36ers allow the opposition to slip next to the ring for an easy basket. If we're not defending the 3 or the ring, I don't really know what we're defending, but I guess this one comes down to being a young side and amateur mistakes.
- Body language was bad. That was the biggest disappointment. Especially after Deng made two amateur turnovers, and then Randle had the chance to use his speed to compete for the ball and didn't bother - Joey was right to be furious.
- Wasn't Randle's best match. Early fouls, suspect defence, missed shots, didn't immerse himself into the game anywhere near what we needed. Here's the thing - if you just dribble for the sake of it, you're giving the defence a reprieve while doing nothing to create a basket. When Randle drives, uses a screen or makes a move like a crossover to shake off the defence that's great. When he's just standing dribbling that's bad. On occasion he ends up losing the ball which makes it look worse. Early on he was too busy dribbling in the same spot while Sobey, justifiably pissed off, was wide open shouting at him for the ball.
- Sobey had a decent match, our only real shining light I suppose.
- Teys wide open three.....air ball. He has the yips or something. Joey needs to get Teys to go back to basic - good defence, get some turnovers, create for team mates, try to get an open little midrange shot or a cheap close to the ring basket.
- Joey needs to work on developing Deng, Drmic and Ferguson so they find a bit of a niche in the system. At the moment they're trying to improvise to make something of themselves in the match. Usually that doesn't work for youngsters. None of them are really doing much more than the odd highlight and lots of amateur turnovers. I think Ferguson will soon learn you won't get away with cheap travels here, you can't let people get under your skin and you can't go around pouting because that's losing mentality.
- Johnson it's good to see you back. Sometimes Johnson shows a bit of killer instinct, although it rarely lasts more than a quarter or two. We need him to go Kobe level killer instinct if we want any chance of winning a decent amount of games this year

Ferguson looked lost. It's easy to say that he's not performing, but what has actually been run for him? You can blame the coaching as much as anything else. He obviously has potential but seems to sit in a corner and watch the offense happen. Can't score if you're not in the play and don't get the ball.
Randle looked fed up. Too many times he or Sobey had to drive into the key and force a shot because there was no offense being run.

What was Brissy 11+ paying?

What's Randle's minute count tonight? I think he'd win the popularity vote V Joey...

I mean most people myself included predicted we would finish bottom after this game we will be bottom so win-loss wise they're doing as expected but it's the manner in which they're losing.
Some of the hidings we've been copping already this season have been pathetic four our lack of effort. With such a young team you should be able to at least count on effort.

Drimic is nearly 25 and certainly not on rookie money, same with ferguson might be 18 but I'd like his pay packet.

I was having a laugh Tempo.
I'd never run a full court press if I was coaching in a pro league

What is harder?
Climbing Mt Everest OR getting a defensive rebounding in the NBL

The body language from Adelaide is horrendous.
Joey is screaming at players for not hustling back on D.
This franchise is in all sorts of shit.

Yeah reflects on the coach, signs appear like this all the time in AFL sides, and the coach is soon dismissed. They are dead and buried this season.

ROFL...after giving up easy shot after easy shot from full court press it finally causes a turnover.
Yep, makes complete sense to do it

Then Adelaide are really fucked, Zodiac.
