What happened to Steven Leven.
I remember watching one pre-season game and he looked like he had game.
But it was the Scott Fisher era, so if you weren't a "team guy" you were gone.

Aaron Trahair had a much better career post playing for Perth and I'm wondering if Simon Kerle could be included in this, if my memory serves me correctly he was a bench warmer with Brisbane it may have been before being a superstar for Geelong and Townsville

Just for a laugh.....
Dean Brogan :P
Seriously though, he made a much better footballer.

Probably because Sobey was chasing more dollars than CNS could afford. Maynard was probably on minimum wage.
Don't be surprised if Heuir looks elsewhere at the end of the season and has a breakout year with someone else.

Always thought sobey had loads of potential the year he was in cairns, not surprised he's finally having a break out year. Never really understood why Corey Maynard was retained that season and sobey let go.. Sobey seemed to offer so much more than Maynard, who was like a 3rd rate Shawn Bruce.

Not sure where Brett Wheeler is these days. Hope he is in good health, last I heard he had some liver condition and may have needed a transplant.

Goulding was on Brisbane before Perth.

Kevin lisch (Perth)
Yes he did bring a championship here and win MVP but he was just getting started as he's since shown. Boy could we use a player like him now and he's also naturalised Aussie. Great bloke too

Anstey came back for the Titans, not the Giants.
If you're going to count Catt for Perth, I don't really see why you wouldn't be allowed to count Anstey for Melbourne, although he did spend quite a bit longer there the second time around.

I'd add to Very Old's list:
Tonny Jensen 1991 Kings and 1993 Suns
John Rillie 1996 36ers
John Dorge 1985-89 Bullets
Phil Smyth 1982 Saints
Smyth had a good debut season in 1982 but Saints lost him to Cannons, where he led them to 3 championships in the next 5 seasons. Definitely one that got away.
It's a bit of a stretch to say Robert Rose went on to better things after his first season in the NBL (1992 Magic). He won a championship in that first season and the MVP in the second season, then moved to the 36ers, Cannons, Crocs and Taipans. He did get a second MVP with the Crocs in 2000/01 but no more championships.
And what about someone like Chris Anstey? Debuted with Tigers in 1994, goes to Magic for a dfew seasons then overseas (including NBA), back to NBL with the Giants for two seasons (2000/01 & 2001/02) and then the Tigers get him back for the rest of his career. Does that count as one that got away (but they got him back again)? ;)

"Alex loughton won a chip with the cats, along with Steven Weigh - now playing major roles in Cairns"
Yeah nah, Loughton left Perth in 2009, one year before their 2010 championship

What about Leroy Loggins, West Adelaide 82.
Then Robert Rose, John Rillie, Bradtke, Newley, Ingles, Brett Wheeler.

Did imports Matt Garrison and Charles Thomas win a title in Adelaide after leaving Hawks?
Not CT the imports in our 2002 championship year were Garrison & Willie Farley.
Garrison did win back to back championships with two different teams (Hawks in 2001, 36ers in 2002) and even managed a short stint with Cairns in between before coming to the Sixers.

Then again, Cannons letting JC go to Perth after one season with them, and without even having a conversation with him about the next season, before Bruton spoke to him at the NBL awards night is right up there as well.
Guys who did better elsewhere after their first NBL season -
Darnell Mee 95 Cannons
David Andersen 98 Hawks
CJ Bruton 94 Wildcats
Shawn Redhage 04 Breakers
Mark Bradke 88 36ers
Chris Goulding Bullets 06
Martin Cattalini wildcats 93
Dusty Rychart Giants 02
Daniel johnson 08 Tigers
Matthew Knight 07 Razorbacks

FYI Alex Loughton did not win a championship in Perth.
Perth letting Martin Cattalini depart for Adelaide essentially in what would be his prime, in order to renew an ageing James Crawford was the biggest front office slip up ever IMO.

@ #762 pretty surecortez groves was cut before south won their title. Imports were Tremell Darden and Donta Smith from memory

DJ started with the Tigers. He showed real potential (at least at one end of the court) so it was no surprise when he blossomed into the star he is today.

Luc Longley leaving Perth ;)
CJ Bruton and Marting Cattalini would be the other big ones.

Kings/Taipans and Ian Crosswhite

David Andersen and CJ Bruton were both youngsters in the Hawks first season at the WEC, imagine the dynasty if Hawks could have kept them with Saville and Campbell for a decade.
Rod Johnson left Hawks and won a title with Giants and had a long post Hawks career.
Warrick Giiddey as a local junior didn't stay with Hawks for long before moving to Tigers.
Did imports Matt Garrison and Charles Thomas win a title in Adelaide after leaving Hawks?
Marcus Timmons debuted with Hawks and went on to have a great NBL career.

Anon, believe me... Weigh ain't all that.
Torrey Craig stings a bit, but you can't argue with Fuquan Edwin. Craig didn't fit our system. Darnell Mee was a flop in Cairns before going to Wollongong.
Sobey stings a lil too

"Goulding first played with Perth."
Didn't Goulding play for Brisbane before he came to Perth?
