while on Mandurah I see on the albury Wodonga lady bandits web-site today that last seasons all-star import adijat adams has signed with the club for 2017.

Yeah you would take him on your team, last year I would rank Ellis,Linberg,Litterick,Aj,Coburn all in front of him.
Bruton too even though he getting older he still gives you that 3pt threat to open the floor.
So yeah you would take him in your team for sure but he would be the 6th or 7th most valuable.

after watching a highlight reel of ricky krecklow the new signing for Mandurah. he looks as though he plays a lot like last years import in trevor setty

Here Here Anonymous. The same ol shit happening year after year with BWA and their so called rules being changed to suit the higher profile clubs. In saying that though think Mandurah were looked after pretty well by BWA when they were having all their financial woes. No way were they financial with SBL and yet were allowed to continue playing.

Simple answer here is had the club appealing been Mandurah, Rockingham or Kalamunda, then there is very little doubt that the appeal would have been thrown out due to it not being a high profile club. This is not a dig at Stirling, but they in many ways will be the golden child for BWA this year given they will very much be the face of WA Basketball hosting the 16s Nationals in July, and what better way to improve that 'brand' than to have three NBL calibre players in Ellis, Wroe & Vague plastered all over Warwick Stadium in Senators Uniforms during the national showcase.

The bigger picture here is that again a strong financial club can ignore the rules and bring in another outside player. That will mean that Ellis, Vague, wroe and an import are getting paid and I imagine some of the other locals are already getting looked after.?Any salary cap is brought in with league equalisation in mind and this doesn't occur. They may hide funds in various ways, taking junior development sesisions etc but we aren't stupid. This isn't a Senator bashing exercise because I can name numerous examples over the last 5 years where clubs spend up and it isn't a fair playing field. Either get rid of the Cap altogether or the league commission need to do something to regain credibility.

Sorry but rules are rules and now the SBL commission are making them up as they go along just to suit some clubs. Bet there will be others who will contest players being restricted now but they will not be allowed to play as unrestricted. Of course depending which club it is?? It can also work the other way where a good player could be out most of the NBL season and come back into the team and play 40 mins per game after the list is produced and therefore not be restricted.

Ok if he suited up for 16 games and avg 9.1mins then that is fine. I will let him play now hehehe.

Just did my own calculations by looking at all the boxscores....
Up to when the Restricted Players list was finalised and published by the NBL, Corban Wroe played 16 games and recorded 145 mins and 12 secs.
Which is an average of 9.1 minutes per game.

^^^
Yep, that is based on the boxscores, and is for stats reasons.
Give the NBL a call, ask the question, they will refer to the actual scoresheets and confirm that he played more than 14 games.

Lukosius - On NBL website
Corban Wroe Perth Wildcats 14games 10.47mins

^
Agree.
If your playing 30minutes in any games in NBL regardless of injuries, its still 30mins!!
Yeah be interesting if it was am ore talented player what the ruling would be!

I don't have a problem with this decision, as basically the calculation was wrong.
It's simple really - if you look at every game that Corban Wroe suited up, he ended up averaging LESS THAN 10mins per game.
Let's also not get confused between a boxscore/stats sheet and an official scoresheet. You are still down as a 'game played' on a scoresheet, irrespective of whether you went on the court or not.
Correct decision, and those who still don't think it is would probably have a different opinion if it was one of their players.

SBL baked this ruling and now it is open to interpretation and challenge in the future.
It looks like it was simply a mercy blessing for Wroe in order to keep him out of early retirement or an extended absence from the court.

If you suit up it should count as game played.Prior to this ruling, games in which he suited up didn't count.
Simple.
Black and white.
Now its blurred with this ruling.
I'm not sure if they've counted the Illawarra and Melbourne games as well, but the first three absolutely should have counted, but didn't.

If he was available, why shouldn't they count?
Round 1 @ BRS: On the boxscore, 0 minutes.
Round 1 vs CNS: On the boxscore, 0 minutes.
Round 2 vs NZB: On the boxscore, 0 minutes.
Round 3 vs ILL: Not on the boxscore
Round 3 @ MEL: Not on the boxscore
The SBL Commission undertook a complete review of Corban’s minutes this NBL season and found the calculations flawed, with a healthy Corban Wroe not given any court time five times during rounds 1 to 14.So those first three games where he was suited up didn't count either.

Either way he shouldn't be restricted so I agree it is not in the spirit of the rule

No - re read the article. They are talking about games where he was available to be selected in the side. But he wasn't selected e.g. Not suited up in uniform.
Those games should not count and they have included them.

Nobody's talking about games where he was injured. They're talking about games where he was available, and suited up, and just didn't get on the court.

I disagree. Games where a player has not been selected in the side should not count towards their minutes calculation.
If a player is injured for 75% of the year and then comes and plays 20 mins a game. They won't be restricted by this method as they will have 18 games of 0 minutes and then 8 games of 20 mins. Bringing them well below the threshold.

In the list supplied by Basketball Australia, games when a player does not hit the court are not calculated into the minute’s average.I actually had that thought a few days ago and was going to ask if it was the case. Those should always have counted as zero-minute games for the calculation of his average.
A process was in place, and it was followed. No complaints about this at all.

How many restricted players are there that wouldn't even have been on the court at all if it weren't for injuries?

Read the article. It explains the reasons.
http://websites.sportstg.com/assoc_page.cgi?client=1-5011-0-0-0&sID=78732&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=52057493

Just opens up the door for other restricted players now I guess.

It's pretty clearly well outside the spirit of the rule. As long as there was a process in place to do that, it's fine.
If there wasn't, then that's more of a problem, but I'd take more of an issue with the lack of available process than with it happening anyway.

Corban Wroe restricted status lifted.
Different rules for different people.
Ok we all understand he is no where close to NBL standard and really barely a decent SBL player (9pts & 5ast in 2016).
However rules are rules and it shouldnt be based on hio lack of talent!

If only Lako could open up the playbook as well they might be successful

Ignoring the above nonsense I am interested to see how Turner fits in at Willoland. At Redbacks he was the sole focus of the team and got his whenever he wanted. Now he comes in as the best player on the Tigers, but is Bowie willing to sacrifice? It seems like Scott will probably be the one who takes the biggest hit, but maybe his numbers stay the same he just becomes more efficient.

Thanks Denzel.... lol

For all those hungry for news from the Giants...
Yes, Geordie Murray will no longer be moving to Kalg after a potential job transfer fell through.
Dave Humphries will also not be playing for us in 2017 after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury a couple of weeks ago.
Atem Atem arrives in Kalgoorlie next week and Brandon Holloway the week after.
Our two imports (Jacob Holmen and JB Pillard) will arrive in Kalgoorlie after their Visa's have been approved, which should be sometime in February.
As far as replacements go for Geordie and Dave, we have just signed a swingman from the Premier League in Adelaide and a scoring guard from Queensland. Details of those signings will be made available in the next few days.

^ Apparently, Murray will no longer be joining the Giants.

Gero import looks LEGIT!!!

Not like you to have inside info Greg. I hear different. I agree with you though. Seems a waste of an import/restricted player spot.

So Stirling will use an import spot on Wroe?
Not what I have heard coming from Warwick.

Wroe will be at Stirling done deal. Caleb Davis to come in as well as Josh Throns.

Dwyane Benjamin AKA Snoop Dogg for all the Bill Walton fans out there...

Ellis being restricted at his junior club because he hasn't played enough games doesn't seem in the spirit either but the rule is the ruleEllis is an NBL-level player, though, and more likely to find a team willing to spend a restricted player spot on him. Wroe is basically out of basketball for a year.
Although yes, it really should take WABL into account, if it doesn't. I'm not actually all that familiar with the rule.

Buccs sign American forward Dwayne Benjamin
MEDIA RELEASE Wednesday 25th January 2017.
“The S&K Electrical Buccaneers are excited to confirm the signing of a second restricted player for the upcoming season, who will play alongside fellow American, Maurice Barrow.
The S&K Electrical Geraldton Buccaneers Basketball Club’s coaching staff and selection committee would like to announce its newest signing in Dwayne Benjamin and would like to welcome him to the Buccs family for the upcoming 2017 SBL Season.
Dwayne hails from the highly regarded Oregon University and is an extremely mobile and athletic player. His versatility enables him to play a number of positions comfortably and he is an excellent offensive threat. Dwayne is an aggressive finisher and offensive rebounder, who loves to run the floor. Most pleasingly though, is the fact that he also fits our main criteria of being a willing defensive presence. Dwayne will be joining the team within the next four weeks.”

Ellis being restricted at his junior club because he hasn't played enough games doesn't seem in the spirit either but the rule is the rule

Is there any process for appealing restricted status? Wroe being restricted is pretty clearly not within the spirit of the rule.
