2017 NBL MVP Awards Night, Monday Feb 13
Yep hosting was like watching the headmaster and his deputy trying to be cool at a kids assembly. Speeches were okay but weird questions like about Jerome being the shortest guy in the league and Randle was prob thinking why didn't he say I'm black too.. Very obvious the teleprompter and presenters have depth of basketball knowledge issues and no idea of the culture

No need to really re watch. You missed some lame jokes and banter with 2 very non basketball announcers and Jerome wasn't too overly excited etc it's business time and you could tell he would've much preferred to be back on adelaide relaxing preparing.

I turned on at 7:30 and expected a small wait b4 tip off nothing until about 7:50 and then no sound. I gave up then. I looked on FB and saw everyone complaining about the ads and breaks and ads and didn't go back. They clearly should have aired something during the meal break. Hopefully they will learn from this if there is a next year.

Jobe you know what he means. A big as opposed to barrage of smalls. Such a technical Bataks when you feel the need to allay down the law.

They stated the criteria for the all star 5's as 3 outside player and 2 inside players - so potentially they team could of been 3 PGs and 2 Power Forwards. There was no rule to have a Centre.

Which one, Brisbane game or the recent mauling of Melbourne's b team?
I thought Craig, Prather or Whittington threw down some better dunks then either of those two from Ferguson.

Yes, apologies to Ferguson - I just got so used to typing "Randle"
Although, I would like to see him dunk in a game...

Craig deserved a spot in the 1st team. Not sure how he landed outside the top 8 in the MVP voting, I would have picked him third behind Randle and Prather.

WTF how did Sobey make the 2nd Allstar team in front of Rotnei Clarke.I hope Rotnei is pe'd off and shows this thursday he is much better than Sobey.

Night all...
Back on Thursday as can't make it to the game, so online it is.. More fun chatting with hoops when watching anyway...and the loo and drinks are closer.. ha ha

36ers would be stoked with almost sweeping the awards
ROY: Drmic
MIP: Sobey
Fans MVP: Randle
COY: Wright
MVP: Randle
All NBL 2nd Team: Sobey
All NBL 1st Team: Randle, Johnson
Assist of the year: Randle
Dunk of the year: Randle
All the awards went as planned - Clarke as 6th man, Craig as defensive player expected and deserved as well

"4 teams that won't be.. Perth didn't even attend"
No undesirables policy at the door? ;)

Ware would have given Randle a run for his money if he was here for the whole season, but doubt there has been a more clear cut winner since Gaze? Chris Williams maybe?
First ever unanimous Sixers MVP winner. (Davis won jointly with Leroy in 1987)
Congrats Randle.

Top Play of the Year
Casper Ware Long Range Buzzer winner to win the game
2nd Randle Shake and bake

Got all the awards correct and only one guy out on each of the All NBL teams. Stoked!

I thought he'd win it, but didn't think it would be that comfortable. Thought Sobey and DJ would steal a few votes off him.

Randle - 143 votes
Casey Prather - 107
Kevin Lisch - 82
Rotnei Clarke - 76
Casper Ware - 74

As pessimistic as possible geez.

The more things we win tonight, the bigger a choke it will be if we don't end up winning the Championship.
Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

How Trev didn't win it shows the league is rigged. Probably every Perth fan right now.

They had to choose a Centre. Which, they don't consider DJ to be one (even though he's played basically his entire career there), so it was either Ogilvy or Kickert. Which, I'd go with Kickert from those 2, but it's pretty debatable that Kickert is actually a C (if DJ isn't one).

I was thinking the same about ogilvy but a mate asked who else and I couldn't really say anyone else. Just quietly adelaide are killing this awards show, more awards than chemist Wharehouse adds!!

Clarke definitely fits the mould of the award. Some of the winners in the last ten years: Hakim Warrick, Cam Tragardh, Adris Deleon, Dontaye Draper. Yep they're all role players as well.
Brad Newley and Chris Anstey also previous winners, again role and impact players not stars

I mean why would you even consider getting the guys who made the 2nd team come up on stage. This is very amateur which is a shame.
