Gotta take the hat off! Well done sir!

Well done Trev championship coach, and a top guy well liked and respected.

I was at a game where some SO-CALLED basketball fans made DISGHUSTING comments to Gleeson about what he liked to do on a Saturday night.
It was an outrage to see the great man treated so poorly.
Trev ignored these MORONS, smashed their basketball team into fine shards of glass and then shot them a look as he left the arena that seemed to say THAT'S HOW I DO YA BISH.

Has any individual player improved as a result of his coaching over the last 4 years?
Maybe Hire, Kenny?

Glad Perth had Gleeson 3 championships, Bevo 3 losses.

Definitely deserves his credit for being a great coach, I don't think too many people will debate that too passionately, but most will debate the best ever, especially recently, due to his inheriting the best program in the league when the rest of the league was in a shambles and a very solid core that has been complimented by some very good imports... Cotton saved that team this season, there can't be any doubt on that, so I doubt that we would be having this conversation if Cotton wasn't signed...
You have to take into account the squads that he's had to work with, how he's won and under what circumstances... The team has had a lot of injuries this season and had to struggle and they came through the other end and won the championship, so you can't discount his role in that, but to be the greatest in the modern era? I don't think so...
Can't get away from the fact that personality plays a lot in how people are judged and the fact that he carries on like a berk during the games will play a huge part in that...

Perth lucky to have a great coach in Gleeson, well liked by his players and support staff. Damo playing his best basketball under Trev. Well done champ.

coaches are normally judged on results. finish down the bottom of the table, you are judged as a crap coach, and sacked in many cases.
Yet a winning record Gleeson has achieved with the Cats is not given credit.
You do not have to like him to give credit for his achievements. His players all seem to respect him and play for him, which attributes to their results.
People need to take personalities out of it and judge on results. Every other coach would love his results.

Anyone that doesn't think he deserves credit and is one of the best NBL coaches ever, is a flog. The guy is a master coach. Just look over his record to see that. Good on him. Not a media tart to get credit like Bevo but rather, he earns it with wins. I respect the hell out of a guy that just goes about his business and gets the job done never expecting any credit.

Shano76 thinks Martin is the best Aussie ever in the NBl,so maybe he thinks Andrew Gaze was a import. He wouldn't even be in my top fifteen or twenty and Gleeson is the greatest coach behind about ten others. We will see how he goes next year without Prather,Cotton and Knight.

"You all forget conveniently how awful he is in timeouts when things aren't going his way."
How do you know how good he is at timeouts?

Good scout and recruiter yes, coach no. You all forget conveniently how awful he is in timeouts when things aren't going his way.
Yes I know his history abroad that is why he is a good talent scout which is enough in NBL as most other teams scout poorly.

"A lot of coaches could've got great results with this squad."
Like whom?
Gaze?
Demopoulos?
Wright?

He is a great Coach with a pretty decent recruiting record. You don't win 3/4 championships being a dud. He is right up there with he best of them, but wouldn't say he would be considered the greatest...not yet anyway.
Wouldn't be surprised with his recruiting ability considering he was a scout for the Blazers the same year he was head coach of Skyforce in the D-league.
He can be annoying to listen to with his OTT whinging to the refs sometimes. Combine that with lack of awareness among some posters here with regards to his credentials, he is probably not getting the full respect he deserves.
Agree with Train that he is up there with the best and may become the greatest in the future. If he does, he will most have certainly earned it.

A lot of coaches could've got great results with this squad. I think it'd be better to judge him off how good he has been with his worst roster. I wouldn't know which roster that is, but it def isn't one that has either cotton or Ennis in it.

At the end of the day, the reason why Perth keeps winning is partly because they have great resources. But teams like Melbourne and Sydney have also been spending big of late, yet they weren't in the mix.
The clear difference to me is coaching. Perth has a quality one, whereas Melbourne and Sydney have been rotating around big "names" but guys with no coaching credentials.
I think Melbourne finished the season with an arguably more stacked line-up than Perth.

note to self - don't poke the Perth fans

It's a dud question though. Has Gleeson proven beyond all doubt that he's a good coach? Yes.
I was impressed with Gleeson during his Townsville days and hoped Adelaide landed him instead of Joey. From memory, it was more or less a case of either of them ending up where the other wasn't.
Gleeson seems pretty intelligent with the way Perth grind out away games with their superior defence. Ultimately, it's won them another crown. He's responsible for that. Gleeson has improved Perth immensely and deserves a lot of credit and respect.
Anyone who says Gleeson is a 'flog'( whatever that means?) is just jealous of Perth. And he's done a lot more than just inherit what Beveridge built.

"Gleeson isn't even the best coach in the current NBL. "
Who is?

He is a great Coach with a pretty decent recruiting record. You don't win 3/4 championships being a dud. He is right up there with he best of them, but wouldn't say he would be considered the greatest...not yet anyway.

Gleeson isn't even the best coach in the current NBL.

you cant be serious Fundingsland. He made the finals each of his 5 years in townsville, was only in Melbourne for one season. Joey Wright has been coaching for what over 10 years, one championship only and that was with the best ever assembled squad in the history of the NBL, everyone says he is a great coach.

"Greatest" probably a bit OTT.
However he is certainly a good coach, and much better than a lot give him credit for.
There were some good coaching performances this year.
Apart from losing his marbles in the last game, Joey Wright did a great job with the 36s.
Bevo did exceptionally well to get his team into the Grand Final.
Fearne took his team to 2nd place.

Fundingslana, Gleeson didn't want Johnson, Marvin did. He didn't want to reactivate his contract after he was released but Nick trumped him.

Not close to the best, not close to the worst.

Championship with Crocs and Tigers?

Look NZ when Andrej was coaching them lets face it, he had 2 imports and a NZ national side, same arguement for the wildcats they have a good squad, I think people don't want to give gleeson any credit, 3 championships in 4 years, got them playing their best at the right time of year, not hard to give him some credit, some may not like his style, but the players do play for him.
Got the job done again without Matt Knight and managed to get some wins without damian martin, he missed 9 games this season.

Andrej Lemanis won three in three years, so even on that basic criteria it's a no!
He is one of the most successful in NBL history though.

Well liked by the players, they will do anything for him. 3 out of 4 championship isn't luck.

If it wasn't for the recruiting of Cotton his team would have missed finals, remember he was the guy who recruited Johnson. Some players make coaches look good.

I would say no, not the greatest, but he's obviously not hapless enough to wreck what he was given. Having a good core together and a club with money to recruit and replace is a huge strength. But he did get the team clicking and they played some very strong defence against Illawarra.

You have to take into account he has the best Aussie ever to play NBL ever in Damo and the greatest NBL import in history in Cotton.

well congrats to the bendigo organization - packed stadium, cheering crowd all day.
real american style dance crew, even played zombie nation !!!
and the spirit won.
Tess off to an Opals camp at some stage for sure.
Q - is Tippett off to college at some stage ?
