Still time for them to bring either some of their DP players up, or maybe find a replacement, Dandenong have only just release this signing today, Antoniadou take their roster to 11
http://bit.ly/rachresigns

Palau was walking round with ice on her leg when they played COE the other week so not a good sign, but hopefully it wont be long term, season starts next week

https://thewest.com.au/sport/basketball/perth-lynx-star-toni-farnworths-season-in-doubt-after-wrist-break-ng-b88612839z
and so it begins...one of the biggest issues with such a short intense season, you get an injury and your likely to miss most of the season and even if your team makes finals you wont have played enough to take part, not so bad when its one of your bench players but when its a starter, or your main import, and with the new WNBL contracted player conditions its will end up being a very expensive little exercise.
Sydney have already lost Tupaea with foot injury, Rangers Spanish import has yet to take the crt due to injury now this one.

Dandenong have signed Antoniadou going by their highlights from preseason and Facebook page

Dandenong look to have added puli, anstey, lopes as DPs?

Perth added schwagmeyer plus DPs pirini, denehy, miotti and rintala.

Who do people expect to finish top-4 this season & who will lift the title?

Hespect, that year they had Jenna Ohea, Kath McLeod and a very young Steph Cummings, not exactly a star studded line up back then

Anon - do you mean except for 2012 when the Rangers won the championship?

^hahaha......with all"that talent" .....it's no more than the rest of the teams in the league, just has more egos than most
Remember Tangers with Mark Wright and "all that talent" , still couldn't buy that championship

Boomers will get it done come the pointy end of the season. Will be teething problems early with that much talent. All about people management for them now.

Bourne who gave up 6-7 inches did quite a good job on Cambage I thought.

So big Lizzie finally takes the crt against the CofE .... didn't suit up against Suzy and the Fire but thought the 16yr olds were worth it..... well ok then lol

Jarry needs to find some form.

The talented lefty grew up in America but now considers Australia home, with plans to gain residency and citizenship.
"I love the lifestyle here, I love the people, especially Tasmania."
So as stated, she's not naturalised

I'd be thinking if Antoniadou is playing at all, then she wouldn't be as a DP after being a roster player previously, they still have two more spots to take them to the 12 before they look at DPS
And having signed two juniors with little experience of senior game in Pizzey and Rowe you would think they would be looking for a couple more with a bit more experience at WNBL level

Wnbl new site looking the goods so far.

Peri kalka joins boomers as dp.

Melbourne will be 15 with Burton
Dandenong will be 14 with Antoniadou, puli, Hollingsworth and Richards?

Players so far
Sydney-15
Melbourne-14
Adelaide-13
Bendigo-13
Townsville-13
Canberra-12
Dandenong-10
Perth-10

Has every team got their 12 rostered players yet?
Think only Boomers and Townsville have listed all their players plus DPs

Ruef isn't naturalised

Ruef clearly..

I've heard of another naturalised player joining the Lynx soon, which will complete a very nice squad of 10 plus DP's.

DPs. Could be wrong though...
Bourne-Canberra
Antoniadou-Dandenong
Puli-Dandenong
Hollingsworth-Dandenong

DP players, unless college bound or under 18 are now required to be paid, this is with the new WNBL players contract terms.
Teams can still have training players to make up numbers but they don't get any thing other than the chance to train.
This new player agreement makes it mandatory for clubs to pay the minimum of $7,800 up to the 8th player, after that it's up to the individual club what they pay, but DPS do now get a small amount to help cover costs

Adelaide have 13 Players in that team lineup. I guess they can't include Planeta until she has her residency but have her contracted anyway?
Here's players 11&12 on their roster: http://wnbl.com.au/adelaide_news/norwood-flames-duo-re-sign-lightning/
Maybe McKay or one of the other youngsters is really a DP. Wish teams would be clear.
I thought I read in the Lynx re-signing of Burton they were looking for one extra player to bring squad to 10. So maybe money isn't there and risking it with small squad and whoever they bring in on DP contracts.

^who are the Dandenong junior rep DPs, most have gone to college

Dandenong have multiple aus junior rep DPs.

I don't think it's been formally announced, otherwise I've completely missed it - but judging by the Lightning/36ers season launch Adelaide have re-signed Colleen Planeta. On their instagram page she's in the front row of the group photo in her jersey.
I read somewhere a few days ago that Canberra is set to announce their final signing later this week. I'd say it would be wise due to the shorter season to contract 11 or 12 if possible - as discussed earlier with such a short yet packed season the extra players would help manage loads and provide extra cover should injuries/illness arise.

that Wiki link is not up to date half of those haven't added any players since June, so unless those teams with ten players listed are only keeping to that ten, it will be a long 'short'season if thats the case if any get injured and playing 2 to 3 games per wek plus 3 to 4 trainings per week.

Im sure all teams will have either extra contracted players yet to come and DPS on their books.
think its only Rangers Lightening and Lynx yet to name all players isnt it

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_WNBL_team_rosters

You can see the few Dandenong DPs on the Facebook page.
Can't name them though.. u18.

"Not quite Anon, but good try. WNBL clubs must have a minimum of 10 players and a maximum of 12 on their main list. When including DPs they can have a total of 15. Therefore, if you only have 10 on your main list, you can have 5 DPs. If you have 12 on your main list, you can only have 3 DPs. There is no mandatory requirement to have any DPs, clubs can choose to do it or not."
isnt that exactly the same as this
"Wnbl can have "up to" 12 contracted players, two of those can be on amateur contracts, only 10 will travel with the team out of those 12 contracted.
In previous years DP players were not payed, but the new regulations relating to players means DPS over the age of 18 and not p,anning on going to,college a required to be paid, so most likely the DPS will not be as many as in previous years, or they will all be kids"
but just worded differently lol
up 12...max of 12.... tomatoes ,tomatos
LOL

Interesting. Then teams seem loathe to have full 12 players on their lists.
Pity there's not like a pdf somewhere you can download

Don't know for sure, but I would've thought it'd be similar to the NBL in having 11 'main roster' players - although perhaps the WNBL would have a max of 11 contracted, as I would imagine it would be a stretch for some clubs, certainly almost all clubs prior to this season to have those 11 players contracted.
In terms of DPs, I feel like there isn't a limit per se on how many they can have, iirc many times Melbourne have had around 6 DPs whereas other teams only have 2-3. imo especially in the womens game there shouldn't be a cap on that as it's important to have those pathways available to the younger players.

i haven't been able to post recently for some reason. Strange. Sad about Chris Lucas, all the best to him.
Question I had, excluding DPs how many players can a team have? It seems some have 11 and some will just have 10.

Melbourne won their first pre-season game against a Victorian invitational team 90-76. http://wnbl.com.au/melbourne_news/boomers-open-pre-season-win/
Cambage & Smart both sat out, it's a bit concerning if Smart still hasn't fully recovered from that leg issue that got her in the back end of last season.
Notable stats -
O'Hea: 16pts, 4 ast
Garrick: 14 pts, 3 ast
Tomlinson: 12pts, 6rbs, 3ast, 3blks
Cole: 12 pts, 5 ast
Purcell: 10pts, 8rbs, 3ast and 5stls

Best captains would be..
Bishop-Adelaide
Griffin-Bendigo
Hurst-Canberra
Cumming-Dandenong
Ohea-Melbourne
Whitcomb-Perth
Ebzery-Sydney
Batkovic -Townsville

Adelaide have announced their new captain - Abby Bishop!
http://wnbl.com.au/bishop-lead-adelaide-lightning-new-era/
Very surprised that the article has no mention of Hodges - I'm fairly certain she was their captain last season, it seems like Nat Novosel is the vice captain.
Some players from around the league were in Melbourne yesterday to film promo footage for Fox Sports. It seemed like there was one representative for each team, those being Abby Bishop, Kelsey Griffin, Rachel Jarry, Tessa Lavey, Jenna O'Hea, Alice Kunek, Belinda Snell and Zitina Aokuso. I wouldn't be overly surprised if those were the captains (or at least co captains) for this season - bar Townsville, for this season. Surely the promo footage will start to circulate on the television soon given its now less than a month til the first game.
