The 36ers fan who threw a beer can which struck a 10-year-old boy at the Gold Coast game last month is facing police prosecution for assault.

The 36ers banned the can-throwing fan, believed to have been a season ticketholder, immediately after they investigated the February 13 incident.

They also apologised on behalf of the club to the Blaze and Egerton's family.

Egerton remonstrated with the fan after the incident and took his personal details.

"He has rung me since and apologised," Egerton said. "But this kind of behaviour is just not acceptable."
