Woodville High, Brenton and basketball in schools

this thread is to celebrate an achievement - well done to those concerned !

Great point. The rich white kids and the indigenous get everything, the latter artificially to give them what the rich whites have. While the average/poor white kids are completely left out. The worst are stuck in the middle with no special attention. The disadvantaged actually get everything handed for free, at least the rich work for it. The average kids in the middle of all this lose out.

" a bit of observational acuity and mental reflection does it for most people" Well said.

Years ago

Annnd , you don't need a cultural awareness workshop to see a socio-economic disadvantage thats been generation in its lifespan, a bit of observational acuity and mental reflection does it for most people. -- ptovided you are old enough. when you are young you just think everyones the same as yourself.

NAOAVO - I absolutely agree, but i don't think you go far enough with your examination of the situation.

INHO an aboriginal specific school basketball program run in this way only begins to address the lack of opportunity that aboriginal kids growing up in the woodville area of Adelaide and attending the local public school have in comparison to the same adelaide age group whose parents deliberately purchase homes in locations that allow them to attend ( say) brighton or norwood HS, or to attend private schools such as st peters girls or Westminster who have/had ex wnbl and nbl players on staff for their "free" student basketball programs.

They are just as disadvantaged when you compare them with just the 'average' kids ( remember over 305 of australian school kids go to private school - just like Patty Mills did)

DSo what IS your definition of "equal opportunity" ?

And on a completely different track, you think the AFL professional clubs spend the money they do on AFL programs in remote communities as simple charities that they run out of the goodness of their hearts ?

mate ( some appropriate gender indeterminate appellation) get a bit more of your brain engaged.

Already, numerous posters cannot have a civil discussion, but instead descend into name calling and abuse. Not sure whether those that object to my original post are saying that there should be unequal opportunity (which is highly distasteful) or whether they just can't help themselves when they sniff an opportunity to virtue-signal. It is typical, however, of the posting on much of hoops.com.au, which has coalesced into basically a trash-talk forum focused mostly on parochial NBL and NBA chatter. Good luck to you all.

Yep. Another idiot dragging down such a positive thing. Slinging mud where there is none. Did you actually read the article before sprouting your spiteful comment?. I am sure that the other 4 posts you have contributed are equally moronic.

Not as old as very old (Not as ignorant but very ignorant).

Perhaps you can elaborate further your 'equal opportunities' and 'resources being discriminately allocated' and 'it disadvantages someone somewhere' in respect to Australian Aborigines.

Before you retort I suggest you attend a Cultural Awareness workshop.

Not as old as very old - agreed. Now come the calls of racism by whitey...

Years ago

Discriminately allocated. Please explain how that could be the case. Other than your bias what would you know.

Years ago

Initiatives like this should go as far as to ensure that minorities have equal opportunity....and no further. I am uncomfortable with resources being discriminately allocated to any one group of people beyond that, it disadvantages someone else somewhere.

Well done Woodville Warriors, great initiative!

Adelaide are not making finals, so this one's all about pride for the home team. For the Taipans and a few other teams, it's absolutely critical. Gold Coast and Wollongong will be desperately hoping for a 36ers win tonight...

I don't want to talk it down, but both teams are on losing streaks; they're not exactly the form teams.

Centrebet have Adelaide as narrow favourites and the Taipans at $2.20.

I think the key will be stopping Crosswhite and Loughton.

What's your tip?
