AU Under 17 squads for Guam?
#288 - you clearly werent present at Nationals. Otherwise you would have seen selectors watching games. But yeah, Im sure the 'sports school' you're involved in knows all the kids across the nation on a much deeper level.

A lot players will finish up this year.
They've chosen the right players recently.
Probably 10 players will be replaced with most likely 01/02 players in preparation for next 2 years worlds.

That's fairly obvious as only two of the CoE boys lived up too their scholarship status!
Must both have great attitudes because they didn't show much on the floor

Froling
Dalton
Beard
Stoddart
Bourne
Simons
Shelley
Clarke
6/8 of them performed quite well.

Talent ID is not great atm.
It is mostly based around a bunch of guys that have barely coached, barely coached elite juniors, have little meaningful involvement with the kids watching how they go at a national tournament and basing it on lagging indicators, stats. Conultation with ALL stakeholders and transparency is almost non-existent and it is intentional.
Juniors develop and change and they do it quickly.
These guys are good basketball people, well meaning but they really do need to take Talent ID more seriously.
Consult and talk to the people with expertise and experience at this. Make the processes more open and transparent. Release depth charts for older kids to those working in the pathways to open it up for debate.
These processes are currently very secretive because imo they don't want to be accountable and also they do not respect those that are actually doing the work to develop the talent.
Talk to the coaches that see the kids working day to day, get to know their family environments, their goals, aspirations, project where the kids will be in 12 mths not where they were 6 mths ago at the last national champs. Be more open and transparent, tension and disagreement over talent ID from various stakeholders IS healthy.

Some of the 2000 born CoE scholarship holders were fairly ordinary at the U18 Nationals, whilst others 2000-2001 not on scholarship were a hell of a lot better?
Future potential, commitment, attitude and recommendation from the respective NITP Head Coaches is obviously a big part of selection.
But some are really mind boggling when you see what else is on the table! Can anyone share some insight on who and why some of these players are offered spots at the CoE??

It's a pacific island that is a federal territory of the US. It has a military base on it. Being the closest US territory to North Korea makes it a convenient target.

Isn't Guam an American base

Great job!

You can see the year they were born from the lists above.

How many of the better performers from the U/18 Nationals Competition Stats are 2000 or 2001 born? They dont give any details to first or second year players? I would assume most of the top 5 major category players are on these lists are 2000?

This is solely for oceanias.
They'll probably bring 20 players for both boys and girls into camp.
You probably won't see Simons or Shelley on the list because of u19 World Cup commitments.
Most likely those from the Coe..

U17 Oceanias champs are for those 00 and younger. In July for qualification into u18 2018 asia qualifiers.
U16 asia champs are for those born 01 and younger. In October for qualification into 2018 u17 World Cup.

Is this 2000 or 2001 born? Bit weak that NSW have put out names when the peak body - BA haven't done anything?
Isn't there an Asia tournament as well??

Yeah only nsw so far.

After a few weeks of talking trash about the Breakers, fairweather writer Marc Hinton is keen to slam the NBL and its MVP night.
The Australian NBL risks becoming a laughing stock if it follows through on plans to fine the NZ Breakers $A10,000 for their failure to front for Monday night's sham of an awards night in Melbourne.Pretty petulant stuff to call the MVP night a sham just because the voting system didn't favour Kirk Penney or because there happens to be a superior defensive player than Mika Vukona in the league. You don't have to hunt back through Hinton's articles for long to find him talking down the Breakers' D like it was rubbish during the tail of the regular season.
It's one thing for an organisation to demand compliancy from its constituents, and it's another altogether to fly in the face of reality.
And the Aussie outfit, which has been battling for credibility since losing established teams in its three biggest markets, has done itself no favours with its heavy-handed treatment of clubs from its two farthest flung outposts.
Here's the story in case you haven't been following it: the Australian NBL held its annual "MVP" awards night in Melbourne last Monday.
Braswell as sixth man and two players in the All-NBL team appears not to have been enough to placate this guy.
A fine for not making the awards night in this situation is one thing to contest, but to throw in poor jabs at what, from many accounts, was a pretty decent MVP evening (for the NBL and WNBL) is a bit unnecessary.
