Network Ten going into administration
Deal is now over with the Yanks. Time to re negotiate

The Project is one of Tens strongest performing programs and achieves even more impressive ratings considering its genre - very few, if any, satrical/investigative/news-broken-down-for-the-mainstream shows have ever succeedd to The Projects extent.
I dont really get what politics or agenda have to do with it when we're talking why Ten failed given the success of this particular program. It's one of the few valuable parts, regardless of any individuals political persuasion.
On a note of political persuasion, to put it crudely - if you see a news program that is politically correct as an issue, or the concept of being politically correct, then you're not the market the program is aimed at by both age and intelligence. Ten aims for 16-30, high school/university educated market - if you're a 50 year old who listens to Alan Jones or Andrew Bolt ranting, you're not anywhere near what The Project is targeting - so failing to persuade you doesn't make it a failed show.
As for the rest of Ten, well I'd say that $150million Fox/CBS contract won't be there for long.

The difference between FTA and pay TV is that FTA must show local content. So they cheap out and go with minimum effort bogan reality TV.
But in saying that pay TV sucks too, only reason to have it is for live sport.

Most of the stuff on standard pay tv to is crapp as well, it's the dumb down off society.

Well said Jack Toft. Agree with all of that and what others have said. FTA is very much dying off. While its sad to see Ten go through this, a part of me is grinning after the treatment Ten gave the NBL.

How hideous is Australian free to air? Each of the three commercial networks gave up on producing drama, it's all reality TV nowadays. and reality TV in Australia means BOGANS building, cooking or whatever. Disgusting, good riddance to this trash.

Ten has always been the 3rd network. The wonky shopping trolly of the industry with 7 and 9 having good 4 wheels.
FTA TV as it is has had its day. It is towards the end of its product lifecycle thanks to the internet, pay TV, and on demand TV. Those products offer a consumer the choice they want. As a result, advertising revenues have plummeted as advertisers follow consumers to the internet for their entertainment.
Shows have changed too, as well as the content. In the heyday of TV, Prime time consisted of after school cartoons, Gilligans Island/Hogans Heroes/Mash/Brady Bunch etc, followed by the news, a game show, a main show from 830 and then a late night show like Don Lane etc.
The criticism of "The Project" is quite valid. When it started the show was basically a pisstake on the news. Comedians would make jokes about the situation, interviewers etc from off takes and extensions of the footage. Now, it seems it is just a platform to push a dressed up political agenda in a politically correct environment.
As revenue streams have dried up like the Darling basin, the networks have moved to "reality TV" shows which are low cost, mainly due to bogans looking for their 15 minutes of fame. They are also rather setup and this frustrates the viewer. Having spoken to people who have on these shows there's a low of situations that have been fabricated. These reality shows have "vote lines" that generate an alternative stream of money. While it was once funny watching a fat chick in her pyjamas slap her butt while wearing bunny ears, YouTube is full of people doing silly stuff.
It is sad to see any business go into administration. There are a few structural changes that are happening to the industry but it is also a wakeup call for the industry to really have a look at their business plan and "tidy up their menu"

Exactly. You've hit the nail on the head. Funny how the draconian ownership laws are finally changing at the "right time". Remember Murdoch Sr. has always wanted a free to air station. That's why he named the general entertainment station on Foxtel "Fox8".
Now he will get a FTA station for peanuts while still owning Foxtel. Perfect. and at the same time NBN rollout rate is pathetic so streaming doesn't completely annihilate TV for at least a while yet.

Don't fret, Murdock son is a director, the federal government are changing the media laws, once it's worth nothing his father will buy it.

Masterchef. The Project. FTA TV is close to being dead with advertisers now spending more Ad money online than TV.

How have they not made bank after all the years of The Simpsons. Surely that show alone would've had huge advertising revenue

The most unfortunate thing about this is that a lot of good people are going to be out of a job

According to 10 news Schensch has said publicly that he wants to come back to the 6ers next season. Clarke still trying to lure Gibson here aswell. Could it be that we may actually have a decent team next season?
