2017 FIBA Asia Cup - 08/08 Australia vs. Japan
Is this the same people that complained during the Olympics with the world rankings system, the only way to move up in those rankings is to improve our depth and win these tournaments, so far so good

Existence in an infinite universe is essentially meaningless anyways... So why do we bother at all?

except for world ranking points.

"This is a b and c team tournament. No team has a full strength side."
Yeah, the tournament is basically the epitome of meaningless.

We are in the group of death.

This is a b and c team tournament. No team has a full strength side.

We are very 3pt focused offensively, and that is a potential Achilles heel, but we should own the glass and cause enough turnovers on D to give us easy points.
It's a weak side in terms of no one go-to guy who can create in the halfcourt though, but I think other than that it's reasonably balanced for this tourney. We would get pumped by any half-decent nation's B-team though.

Think he was comparing it to the soccer population.

haha those commentators. They said "Japan has fielded quite a good team considering there small population". Japan has a population of 130mil.

I wouldn't be surprised if this team were tested a few times in this tournament. The commentators may have been swooning over them but this is the weakest Boomers team I have seen in at least 10 years by a fair margin. They'll improve over the course of the tournament, and maybe they wont be challenged but I still find them thoroughly underwhelming.

Hopefully Creek has all those behind the back dribbles out of his system.

I thought Jervis was on the team???

It's the only problem with tournaments of this nature. There are some very weak teams.
An average Tall Blacks team (probably our C team) just beat Kazakhstan 70-49. Kazakhstan had, at one point, 13 points and 13 turnovers (and finished with 30 odd turnovers).
However, some of these teams need to start somewhere and the end goal is to develop the sport and the international game - so it will hopefully have long term benefits in some of these countries to grow the game.

Taiwan and HK are even worse opponents, this was the hardest team in our group... lol. Gonna be murder, son.

The commentators started wondering where in Australia our home World Cup qualfiers will be played (not annoucned yet BA get your act together!). Of all the NBL teams to mention the American clown says this:
"Are the Crocs going to [host]? Townsville?"
Oh my.

After I think the third timeout, where you could clearly hear on all three occassions that the Argentine head coach of Japan was talking to the players in English, with a Japanese translator beside him, one of the commentators asks the other:
"Don't you think most of the Japanese would know English?... maybe the translator is there because the coach is speaking in Spanish... Argentinian Spanish."
Send this bozo home.

The commentators are indeed awful. Please stop trying to pretend to know anything about, well, anything.

how bad and boring are the commentators I can't stand the English one!
get a bigger crowd to a mini ball game

Is this being played in the Christian part of Beirut? Otherwise Hezbollah threat :s

Was his sister number four prostitute? Very niiiice.

Wasn't Bose from Kings setting himself up in Kazakhstan at both club and national team level, even changing his name? Even got a wife there.
Now he is completely gone from there and returned with a whimper to Aus. They must have turfed him. Going by the result vs NZ youth they need him so he probably got dumped for insulting the dictator or something non basketball related.

togashi has played summer league a couple of times I believe.
He must be able to play at just 5'6" if he played SL with the Mavs and even got a training camp invite from them.

Excited about this young kid who goes to NBA global academy

Well in that case I guess free trial since it sounds free. and free is cheaper than $10.

If you aren't already a foxtel subscriber. Not worth me paying a monthly subscription to watch a couple games. I don't watch TV otherwise.
