Boomers team for qualifying games announced
Very different to Asia Cup.
Teams have there best squads.

Looking forward to seeing what it's like playing an away tie in a place like Taiwan. They can be pretty big on their hoops there, although with some of their veteran guns moving on the national team may not have the same prominence ATM.
Also interested to see how well the Boomers can just gel together. They did that pretty well at the Asia Cup without warm-up games. I'm guessing they'll go with the same starters as in Lebanon - Brandt, Kickert, Creek, Gliddon, Cadee.

Both games (Friday night @ Chinese Taipei, and Monday night vs Japan in Adelaide) are showing as live broadcasts on my Foxtel tv guide :)

Lemonass is a high school nickname from his days at Essendon Grammar, Anon #652931.

FIBA Asia-Oceania have a ridiculous eight spots in the World Cup. We could use a SEABL select side and still qualify.

Yes, Adnam over Cadee I'm afraid. I feel like Adnam would be capable of making the big shots that Cadee makes, just minus the brain farts and constant bitching to the ref.
The rest of the team is pretty close but it lacks size. I can see a good case to bring in either an Anderson or Majok, or both. If Jawai were healthy, and Lisch, I would have liked to see both of them in there.
Either way, we're suiting up against Japan. I know you should never take anything for granted but seriously, come on lol.

This team has not one player who is / will be good enough for the nba. Humphries and Bolden should have been picked

I would have liked to have seen Humphries come in for development.

The reason that Martin, Newley and Kickert are on the team is probably primarily leadership/experience. Take them out of the team and you have a pretty inexperienced (especially internationally) team.
I don't like Cadee being in this team, on his NBL form, yet he has a tendency to bring it in international ball. The team will have two extremes at the PG position, with Martin pretty much a non-threat on offence, but (did you guys know???) he's a demon on defence; whereas (I don't need to state the obvious) Cadee is the opposite.
If you want to talk about players who have used up their time in the Boomers team, Gibson leads the list, for mine.
It is interesting that Martin is the only true PG on the team. All of Cadee, Gliddon, Sobey and McCarron can/do play some PG for their NBL clubs, but none of them are designated in that role (well, I think we all agree Cadee shouldn't be). Norton is probably the best of the rest of Aussie PGs, but he's also a bit of a Martin-lite, so it wouldn't help the team balance for him to be there.
I don't think you will ever see DJ or AJ in the Boomers line up with Lemonass as the coach. He doesn't like them; probably DJ because of his lack of rebounding and defence (hello Kickert), but IDKW he is so down on AJ.
Newley was the worst omission for the Olympic Games team, and should definitely still be there.
Otherwise, I think the team is pretty right. You could make a case for Majok, I suppose. I don't think he's shown all that much improvement in the last couple of years, though. Certainly not in comparison to Brandt, and to a lesser extent, Hodgson. Brandt will be the best Aussie centre for quite a while, I think.
Lemonass could run with a small ball line up of Martin, Goulding, Sobey, Creek and Kay. That would be fun to watch, and a pretty good balance of defensive pressure, running the floor, penetration and outside shooting.
I think I've said enough. Ciao!

U30
Would be..
Norton/Adnam
Goulding/Mccarron/Gliddon
Creek/Sobey/Blanchfield
Kay/Johnson
Hodgson/Brandt

Call me crazy, but I'd take Adnam over Cadee too.

DJ too soft? So is Kickert though.
DJ is a lot better than Kay too.
Brandt and Hodgson are different types of players to DJ, so not comparing like for like. Maybe they decided they want two big units on the inside. Fair enough.
But no way should Kay and Kickert be ahead of DJ. Kickert's also 5 years older than DJ- shouldn't they be prioritizing players who could contribute to the Boomers program for the next 3 years?

Why isn't Daniel Johnson in the team?

Yes, Norton is a PG. Cadee, not so much

If not Cadee, who?
Norton?

Moving on from Anderson..
Lisch injured...
Blanchfield not ballin..
Teams about right.

The Mount Gambier Pioneers had a relatively good season. Thier overall record of 11-15 may sound bad but thier home record 10-3 was the second in the league. Unfortunately couldn't get it done on the road 1-12. I thought their season was good considering they had no one to replace Eric Burden of the bench and their injuries at the start of the season were unfortunate.
How do you rate their season?
Who do you think will take home the MVP (Allan Scott Medal) for 2011?
Will the current team and coaching staff stay together next year?
