No excuses for Gaze now
Time to get a mongrel defensive assistant coach.
The time for that was before they hired Kendall... They obviously don't value defence, otherwise they would have made it more of a focus, especially with the players that have been with the team since August, but they are some of the worst defenders we have...
The amount of times that our bigs left their men to have them score easily it was almost like it was an instruction...
Can't wait to see the effect of Tyler on the team... He seems to be pretty vocal and after watching the other games this weekend, most all with a proper big in the middle, Jervis especially being very vocal and directing his teammates, hopefully he fills a significant hole int he middle we've had, in more ways than one...

After that last United game, you can see a bit more where they are lacking defensively. There is improvement compared to previous week, but I have to wonder how at NBL level some of the players are committing basic defensive errors.
Players like Humphries, Singh & Thoseby have been with the coaches since August. Surely the coaches would have noticed & tried to iron out the issues ASAP. If you're adjusting now, what have you been doing the past 10 weeks?
Too much focus on ball containment & not enough player containment. Look at some of your player foul count, giving up that much easy scores & a lot of your players on 1 or 2 fouls mean they are soft. Tell them to check harder, more forearm shivers and pick a fight.
Time to get a mongrel defensive assistant coach.

It's so painful watching the Kings be able to score well enough (especially compared to previous seasons) but give up so many points from just non-existent D... Part of that is the players fault, but the huge part of it that Gaze & Co have to pay for needs to be highlighted...
Just so so so SO bad... This isn't going to be fixed by bringing Randle in, it's going to be solved by bringing in a better coach...

Are they playing this week?

I am no fan of Joey's theatrics, but fact is (when focused) he's an extremely good coach, a good recruiter, and for the most part uses his players well. Randle thrived in Joey's style of play.
Randle aside, his team were not the most "star-studded" yet were almost unbeatable during the regular season.
Gaze is almost the opposite. He spent more money than anyone else and still failed miserably, even with Vickerman to help out.

Gaze cannot coach that is the real issue and lets see how much of the ball Randle will want and give others opportunities because he would not have come to the Kings for pittance and it's obvious he left Adelaide because the money was not going to be paid to him on what he was demanding.
So if wants everything and is here for himself only then GAZE will not be able to handle him.

I'm not sold on the bench yet but they need an aggressive Brad Newley, if he can make his jump shots and get into the key then he will scare opposition teams with his ability.
If Newley can be dangerous and Lisch can come back and be more SG league MVP calibre then Randle and Ellis make this team an awesome prospect and that's not mentioning Tyler, Blanchfield, Caddee or the development of Isaac Humphries which I'm very excited to see as season progresses.
All it does is tell me that Brisbane are odds on to finish bottom

JvG will definitely shift any blame and try to David Blaine any blame he so richly deserves for the shit initial recruiting by going "look! Randle! Another MVP!" but really, if Gaze can't get it together with this team, he WILL deserve a large portion of the blame as well...
I swear, I'm gonna start pulling my hair out the next person who says that the Wildcats were last then still managed to win it... No fucking clue...

Gaze was the wrong appointment by JvG. JvG is the root of all the Kings' problems. AEG hiring him was the root of everything actually. You would think AEG would have more of an idea!

Well, with plenty of money, JVG has shifted all the pressure to Gaze and the coaching staff. I suspect that coach Gaze might defer to 'coaches' Randle and Lisch if his schemes don't work.

kings will need a good unbeaten streak to make up being 2 games out of the 4, and 1 game behind other contenders.
Gaze's coaching future is is on the line here. Fail now and it is all over!!!!!

From today's Herald-Sun in Melbourne:
Despite regular talks with Basketball Australia about resurrecting the club that folded after three seasons, former Dragons co-owner Mark Cowan has closed the door on a return.
South Dragons closes door on NBL return
Personally, I think this is a good thing as it means the "Eastern consortium" bid backed by Basketball Victoria is likely to gain further momentum.
