Opals squad named for Feb 2018 camp
44% fg ain't that bad.

had 10 assists and 10 turn overs previous game, she also puts up the most shots on the team and doesnt have the best %.........see nothings changed then lol

Turnovers and 3 pt shooting needs improvement.
Averaging 5.5 turnovers a game and only shooting 29% from 3 but is putting up 18 points, 10 assists (leading NCAA) and 4 rebounds per game. 87% ft.

Tiana Mangakahia scored 19 points, including the winning 3-pointer with 57 seconds left, and Syracuse upended No. 17 Duke 68-65
(also 11 assists)
;)

Donnelly is better than Lavey.

Mangakahia time.
Doing well atm for sure. Certainly turning heads in the NCAA.
her we go lol

Doing well atm for sure. Certainly turning heads in the NCAA.

I think it's fine, not many big teams in the comm games.

This looks like comm games squad.
Lavey
Clydesdale
Whitcomb* or Griffin*
Ebzery
Seekamp
Cumming
Ohea
Kunek
Garbin
George
Magbegor
Cambage

Who exactly is available?

Bunton has plenty of time to get match ft for WC, just not comm games.

And smith looks likely to make ncaa tournament, so she's out also.

Wow, terrible news.
Looks like magbegor will get her chance at center.

It won't be easy.
We are not the team we used to be.
I think we will struggle to medal.

Must win first game for Australia against turkey.
Hollingsworth will be a handful for Cambage/Batkovic

Opals World Cup group has
Turkey
Argentina
Nigeria

The squad is looking like.
Clydesdale/Lavey
Ebzery/Cumming/Seekamp
Ohea/Kunek
Griffin/George/Garbin
Cambage/Magbegor

Ncaa tournament finishes April 2nd.
Comm games are from the 4th-15th April.
The only college kids that will be available are the ones who dont make the tournament and finish early-mid march giving them 3-4 weeks before the games.
Currently you've got ranked and likely to make the tournament.
Mississippi State-Bibby (2nd NCAA)
Baylor-Wallace (3rd NCAA)*
Oregon-Maley, Yaeger (6th NCAA)
UCLA-Horvat (9th NCAA)
TCU-Hellessy (22nd NCAA)
Stanford-Smith (24th NCAA)*
California-Anastasieska (25th NCAA)
Just outside the top 25
Buffalo-Reid
Syracuse-Mangakahia
Minnesota-Edwards
*Means smith is an outside chance and Wallace has no chance of making comm games.
Stanford pretty much has to win out and finish top 2 in PAC 12 tournament.

I'd go with Mijovic as the role would be a backup position and it's better to have someone who can provide some spark even if it's inconsistent at times!

They would be mad to leave Griffin out, her position does t have much in the way of other choices in that 3/ 4spot, and Clydesdale Lavey Ebzery Seekamp and Cummings have the guard spots covered without Whitcomb.
Hard to say who the next big would be, she could choose to take Smith from college especially after her last Opals outing. Sherf has not really performed this past couple of seasons when in the WNBL but handles SEABL with ease, Grant !? Sorry no way IMO
Mijovic, she is so inconsistent, but think she had an OK season this year, if she’s on though she a great asset to have, but running so hot and cold as she does it’s a risk.

If bishop is in Russia, then who's the next big in line?
Scherf? Grant? mijovic?

Might be missing
Hurst
Mitchell
Mansfield
Allen
Talbot
Kunek
Blicavs (injured)
Batkovic
Tolo
Bunton (injured)
Only ones left are
(and you can only take one of Whitcomb or Griffin)
Lavey
Clydesdale
Whitcomb*
Ebzery
Seekamp
Cumming
Ohea
Griffin*
Garbin
Bishop
George
Magbegor
Cambage

If for some reason Allen, Talbot, O'Hea, Kunek & Snell aren't enough at the SF spot, I'd be looking at Ally Wilson as next in line.

Mia has moved way down the list of small forwards, so too jarry.
3 guard lineups are the way to go these days anyway.
Batkovic and Cambage in the post.

We won't no until the second camp in a couple of months time.

By the way, do we have any word yet about which players currently in Europe and US College are going to be available for selection?
Would be nice to know so we can start discussing who we'd like in the final 12.

Mia is a good player, but it's as if he paid no attention whatsoever the season that just finished. It was not one of her best.
Using the example of one game from 3 seasons ago as part of the argument says everything about the substance of his argument.

In a surprising development, Boti Nagy of botinagy.com supports the inclusion of a player from South Australia into the national squad.
http://botinagy.com/blog/common-wealth-for-games/

This is only the first camp.
Brondello said she might add players in the next camp and also take some out.

hasnt it been said they need to be playing in Aus to make the Opals selections unless injured?
a little gossip bunny mentioned that the other week

I'm sure they can step away from college for a fortnight if they don't make the NCAA tournament. Stanford not looking good, so smith is an outside chance.

All the recent inclusions have been right on the money I reckon. (I guess one could say yes - on the money because they were pretty obvious picks - but the last few years have shown that we can't take even obvious things for granted when it comes to the Opals)

Smith has college commitments as does Wallace. Both should be in World Champs team though!

I'd prefer smith.

If Garbin can get a camp invite and with Batkovic now gone overseas; Mijovic should be the next big called up to the camp! She's only 23 and had a decent year??

Blicavs and Bunton out for 2018 SEABL season reported in local paper 3 days ago. Both recovery from major surgery/injury

Batkovic has gone to euroleague. BLMA France...

Are we back in the 60's? Use metric ffs.

93 6'2 Blicavs 3/4
87 6'2 Griffin 4/3*
94 6'3 Garbin 4
96 6'3 Froling 4
88 6'3 Bishop 4*
89 6'4 George 4/5*
99 6'4 Magbegor 4/5
96 6'4 Smith 4/5
80 6'4 Batkovic 5/4*
89 6'5 Tolo 5/4*
96 6'5 Scherf 5
93 6'5 Bunton 5
91 6'8 Cambage 5*
Pretty deep...
*more than likely last cycle of Asia Cup, Comm games, World Cup, Olympics.

Maybe not far away but not beating George, Batkovic, Cambage, Bishop, Garbin out of a spot. Or Magbegor for that matter.

Very good, would take her ahead of bishop.
How long is Sara Blicavs recovery?
Bunton must be not far away?

Lavey has done jack, Donnelly is a much better option.

Got to love the Mangakahia fan, she’s playing college ball and not in that good a team for the women, yets she’s ready and Lavey ( who’s already been to an olympics and worlds and playing elite “women’s” basketball not college ball) isn’t ready lol
In your dreams mate, in your dreams

3 pt % not good.
Hurst 36%
Lavey 34%
Clydesdale 37%
Seekamp 28%
Cumming 34%
Ebzery 31%
Snell 39%
Ohea 26%
Garrick 30%
Kunek 37%
Blicavs 32%

I'd have the following team:
Hurst, Mansfield
Ebzery, Blicavs, Seekamp
Snell, Kunek
Griffen, Bishop, Magbegor
Cambage, Batkovic

So no Seekamp despite being top 10 in MVP voting.
I'm not sure that makes alot of sense!

Deserves a spot. Anyway who has watched Syracuse this year will tell you that.
