New January thread...

No it's not Voelkel someone else

Hearing the Slammers have signed a 6'6 guard/forward fresh from College. No idea what division/team but have a guy lined up. Anyone have any idea about him?

Timms announced at Suns. Big team with him and Davis.

You'd think Sharpe would play as a 2/3 over here, especially since they already have 2 starting bigs.
Averaging 7 rebounds a game at 6'4 is pretty good also.

Undersized forward by the looks of it. But his highlight video is impressive.

NCAA Div2 Conference Player of the Year is no small feat either.

Giants announced their second import today, Jeylyn Sharpe, 6'4 swingman.
Story about him on their Facebook.
Been a busy couple of weeks for them.

I stand corrected I thought Catalano was the coach.. well good for them. I could get my dog to sit next to the bench, he would be more chop than Catalano as a coach.

Voelkel signing is huge, his all round numbers last season were amazing.
It will be interesting to see how well he handles playing for the worst/ losingest coach in the recent history of the SBL. With a less than 2% win ratio look for that whole program to slide backwards very quickly.

Word out of Gero is that former Buccs coach Scott Rubery is the new Giants coach. Anyone confirm?

South Western Times I assume?

Voelkel coming back helps, but he's best when in a team of talent that he can create for. If the guys he is getting open looks for are average then he won't be as dominant.

If it has been announced, where? Source? That is a massive signing because Slammers are looking crap right now

Where? Not on facebook page

Word out of the Goldfields is they've got a SBL D1 Womens team next season and their coach announcement isn't far off either.

Suns with Belger and Davis are going to be improved, no matter who the aussies are. Much better balance with two of the better imports in the league.

Suns wouldnt have the $ to get redhage.

Louis Timms spotted down at Hawks training in civies

Sorry...

Clarke will start over DT for Hawks. Hes going to be up for MIP next season.

whilst i realise this was originally a sledge at ES sbl coach, lets keep wabl chat to another thread and kes this for sbl

I coached a bunch of kids from last winter U/14s and they all knew all about zone defenses. Maybe opposition coaches could have worked out a way for their team to combat a zone. If you watch U/14s in WABL you will know zone is played a fair bit. They won't call it that but it is what it is.
If you can't understand why the age groups are different to WABL, send BWA an email and I'm sure they will have you quickly informed so you will, along with 20000 other people, understand the concept.

Half the kids playing in that division would have come straight from 14s. If you ask me it's a chump move from a chump coach. Develop your players or go try that crap in 17s or 19s and see how that works for you. Also, why does BWA continue to have the odd age groups for state champs? Can we either make wabl the same ages or once and for all change the state champs divisions to align with WABL

Kids have to learn to play it somewhere. Six games in two days is a pretty good situation to teach, especially if you have your best team in second div.

He actually ran it for the entire game against a half strength Under 14 Southern Cross Challenge Team. Those boys would have NEVER seen a zone.

That's sure to really develop the kids up there 'Here, sit in this zone. You will learn nothing but they won't know how to beat us yet so I will look like a genius' "evil laugh"

Breaking News!
Coach Clarke (Kalamunda MSBL Head Coach) steers Under 15 Division 2 Men to State Championship title by playing 2-3 zone defense for the ENTIRE tournament - going undefeated!
With such an emphatic result will Coach Clarke now consider using the same strategy to win the 2018 SBL Championship?

Slammers still with no coach and about 2-3 players

lakeside mens final
http://websites.sportstg.com/round_info.cgi?a=MATCH&fixture=555595313&c=1-72-0-462630-0&pool=1001

Hard fought game by both teams.
ML winning by 4 points at the end.
The biggest surprise out of the game is 17 year old Mitch Clarke.
The point guard is currently in the final 15 for WA state try outs and looked more than capable defending senior guards in Scott and Armour.

Who won? And by how much?

HUGE FINAL TONIGHT AT THE GOD-DOME!
Party Flava
Shawn Redhage
Matt Nielsen
Kyle Armour
Damien Scott
Mark Heron
Joel Wagner
Most Legends
Ben purser
Ryan Smyth
Josh Garlepp
Fletcher Creelman
Cooper Hamilton
Mitch Clarke
One side has two former Boomers and a stack of SBL talent the other is basically a Hawks team minus imports.
Both semi finals were closer than expected and were firey affairs. Coogee put up a great fight while Ramjets blew a 15 point lead to eventually be outclassed by ML.
Prediction: Word on the street is some players have prior commitments and have asked it to be pushed later.
Will this effect the outcome?
PF by 1 on the buzzer

Two close games last night see Most Legends and Party Flava through to the big dance.

the restricted /non restricted ruling will have a bigger impact on the womens competition this year in wa.
with really only cody ellis , maybe we might see hire and a few other wildcats bench play SBL ? I cant see the ruling affecting the mens comp
the women however is different with kunek, burton probably being restricted but then there are a number of other girls on the fringe minutes wise . not sure about Edmondson, ash grant, Thompson, boag and im sure ive missed others. perhaps others coming from the east . this potentially could change a few teams if they become restricted/non restricted

Caleb Davis had already been linked to Hobart before signing with Stirling. Anyone have any idea what to expect from him?
