WA SBL - January 2018
New February thread....

Clint Steindl won't be playing for Willetton. For starters he is on the NBL/SBL restricted players list, and the Tigers already have two imports.

Politically Guam are a USA territory. But we are not talking politics here.
Guam are part of FIBA Oceania, and in a basketball sense are no different geographically than New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga etc etc.

Aaron Berryman is coaching East Perth. It's on their website.

I would rather not know than know you have Catalano coaching

Tiglets making some noise this year, look for Steindl to sign with them in coming days.
Flex on Flex off, the OG offense devised by the Mr Miyagi of the feline world (aka Mr Meowgi) Alan Black, passed on to Steven.

It is how he was able to play alongside 2 imports at Bendigo, and also when he suited up for the Wildcats previous to that.

The rumour about Earnest Ross isn't that far-fetched, considering he is only 27yo and would player as an unrestricted player.
He averaged 20ppg in the SEABL a couple of years ago and would be a 'marquee Aussie' for any SBL team.

Joking yeah?

Ross will probably be playing for Joondalup or Perth

Slammers and East Perth must be very low on numbers, quality numbers anyway which is what really counts. The Slammers will fold if Catalano coaches more than 1 season, no one too fond of him down south

wow, rockingham women are stacked as well.
east perth have some juniors coming thru- their under age boys are good

Will East Perth even field a team this year in mens SBL? Last year imports not returning, Bragg gone, coaches gone, who will they have to make them competitive? Jo-Allan and Drew must both be turning 46 this year. Jervis won't be playing for them. Do they have juniors pushing through? Didn't see much evidence of that last year.

Blitz fixtures announced

Voelkel may not be playing for the Slammers now I am hearing. They are all over the place (aren't we all shocked knowing who the head coach is)

"is mason bragg playing for east perth in 2018 ?"
No, he is returning to Tasmania to play for his junior club NW Tasmania Thunder following the Wildcats season

Judging by that lineup above, redbacks are planning on not having Redhage back. Barrow is not a 3 so with Vigor as well (unless he's now out) that would make 4 guys who want 35 mins+ at the 4/5

with only 6/7 weeks left til the first game of the SBL -WSBL season there is not much news coming out of some clubs.
is mason bragg playing for east perth in 2018 ?
have the s/w slammers announced their second import to go with voekel ?
are Mandurah getting 2 imports ?
nothing from the buccs ?
redbacks women have recruited really well , any news from rockingham, cockburn, kalamunda women, wolves all quite at the moment

Matacz has retired? Wow, I didn't see that press release?

For those older SBL fans who remember the rebounding and blocking exploits of former Giants captain, Wayne Creek, the SBL's all-time leading shotblocker.... his 16yo, 6-7" son, Cooper, is having a bumper junior year at high school in the USA....

Too small. Surely there's a big at Stirling they could get. Carlwell to come off the bench to match up with ,,err Maxwell.

Yo are we gonna let slide Joondalups announcement this morning:
PG - SULLIVAN
SG - ILIADIS
SF - CLAUSEN
PF - BILLUPS
C - HUNTINGTON
BENCH - SALINAS
BENCH - MAXWELL
BENCH - IRONMONGER
BENCH - EASTHER
BENCH - WELLSTEAD

It is apparent that SBL fans and knockers who live south of the river have personality defects which become evident in the above posts.

Parsons does the exact same thing.. he just has a better rep.
Redhage still hasn't signed anywhere.

Fair play to Lako, won a championship. I ask the question, would he have won it without Redhage. No.
This year, he goes out and gets Hussey and Barrow, to ADD to Vigor, Roberts and Redhage. He isn't going to get any praise for winning with a stacked team. Redbacks shooting themselves in the foot again giving all their money to SBL when they're Juniors are falling apart.
Matt Parsons has earned the leagues respect with what he did with his team 2 years ago, and even the Hawks last year after a terrible start. Randy Meigel, Doccy, hell even Nener. But Lako is just opening the cheque book. for shame.

'Timms will be in a Lakeside uniform and look for him to be a 20/10 guy.'
'Curtis Jackson is Lakeside's import.'
'Austin Bruton back at Lakeside.'
0 for 3... keep swinging Champ.

I believe he is their starting PF. I would imagine they’re getting a 5. And you clearly are reading the wrong info if you think he only averaged 4 points....
This guy played in one of the top leagues in the world.. clueless

Interesting - top league Greece and Sweden, playing against Euroleague teams and much better numbers than Cooper Land in Japanese league that Cooper couldn’t stick in.
Bryan Sullivan Germany ProA and Czech. Don’t get me wrong Bryan looks great but who am I taking on paper?? Hmm

Anyone notice the Rocko import announcement? Best resume I’ve seen for a while on an import. Looks too good for SBL. Better version of Cooper Land.

^^ Everyone's laughing ...... at your lack of spelling ability. Pal

thread is called WA SBL
The State Basketball League (SBL) is Western Australia's semi-professional basketball league. The league comprises both a men's and women's competition and is run by the state's governing body, Basketball Western Australia.

Vigor isnt considered a restricted player is he? I heard that Perth already have a 2nd import who has been here since last month. No one will confirm.

How long until Calwell not an import? Wasn't there all that talk about Hawks paying for his citizenship etc last season?
What's Vigor's status? Hasn't he played enough games for Perth to be an exception?

Couldn't see any mention of it on here, but the Buccs announced their first import on the weekend in Colter Lasher.
Hawks just posted about Tyler Monroe landing in Perth.

Rockingham with six out of their first ten away also so it's not just a bad draw for Cockburn. That being said though, it both teams get through those first nine or ten games above .500 then having more than half of their remaining games at home should put them in.good stead

The fixture this year has not been kind to the Cougars… only 3 of the first 10 games at home and a heap of Friday night away and Sunday games. Could be a tough start for the boys at Wally Hagan.

hahaha Lako removed from the training. Funny. Kyle Bowen has been down there working out with the Cats. Lako trying to claim him as his own product of course so thought he could just walk in and own the place like he usually does.

" They are a club with a talented roster with plenty of youth coming through."
Hahaahaaahhhaa. Talented maybe, but none of their own. Their program of promoting/developing their own youth is perfectly displayed each season when their imports and five guys from other clubs suite up.
FMD.
